I first listened to this tape in detail last year, the old transfer which has circulated for some years. I was surprised at just how good it was. Very clear, nice instrument separation, generally very impressive. However, I soon realised perhaps why it wasn't talked about much - a loud, persistent humming noise over vast swathes of the second set. Not good. So I got in touch with the ever-obliging guys at JEMS - if anyone had a clean version, it would be them, right? Initially the response was no. However, to no-ones surprise it turned out they had a digital clone of the analogue masters - and guess what? This version was as clean as a whistle, and wow, what a tape. Remarkable really, in several ways. Firstly, it's the whole show with almost no edits. Just a tiny one at the end of The Promised Land and another at the start of Backstreets. I've left the latter as it appears on the tape. Secondly, the low-end. I'm not aware of another tape from this era like it. For me, it's up there with the best tapes from the tour, so turn it up loud and enjoy a great show. I don't need to point out the highlights - it's a Darkness Tour show after all. Big thanks to E @ JEMS for giving me the chance to work on this tape.
