1981-05-27 - THE BRIGHTON CENTRE, BRIGHTON, ENGLAND Upload by cre001 For the last few years Brucebase has included the following " Audience tape (Unbooted). Two versions circulate, the one which has better sound quality is missing "Hungry Heart". Last "The Price You Pay" until 2009, performed in the full-band arrangement" The alternate source mentioned does not appear to be in general circulation. I have 2 sets of tapes for this show. Both probably 2nd gen. The first set of tapes matches the main circulating version which was made available for the River Flood project and which is also widely available as a set of mp3s from a different transfer. This is the River Flood part of my 35 years anniversary upload. Playback used a Nakamichi DR-3 deck with dolby off for this new transfer. Tapes were SONY HF90s. Transfer used an external Furutech ADL GT40a analogue to digital converter set in Windows for 24/96 transfer. All other sound devices disabled. Recorded using iZotope RX3 Advanced with enabled ASIO ADL driver as internal 32bit float/96000 wav file and saved as a raw transfer. Edits performed using 24-96 files in Audacity and re-exported as 24-96 wav. Resample to 16-44 in iZotope RX3 and conversion to flac in TLH. Check for errors and SBE's in TLH. My copy of the River Flood source is superior to the circulating copies for the section of the show from Fire to Rosalita. For the rest the 24 bit ASIO transfer also provides for fuller punchier transfer quality on most tracks. However there is a drawback on my copy where some tracks and in particular Independence Day, Thunder Road and The Promised Land have a phasey quality. I also hear this in places on the River Flood transfer but it is accentuated on my transfer. Because there are already raw versions of this source already in circulation I am not uploading a raw copy but have remastered by applying a basic noise reduction to reduce hiss by 12db. In addition I have made some edits 1. Added the intro to The Promised Land from the alternate source. The transition is audible even though I tried to match eq. Also included is an unedited version. 2. Added crowd chatter from the Bosstrade copy to the beginning of Born To Run and Jungleland. My copy had most of the chatter but the Bosstrade copy had a bit more. 3. Edited the transition from Jungleland to I'm A Rocker. The transition was also edited on the Bosstrade version and is virtually seamless on that version. I have repeated with a very similar edit. Leaving the transition as on the tape was very untidy. 4. After a few goes I have not included Hungry Heart from the alternate source. The eq was too difficult to match cleanly. I am also aware that part of Hungry Heart was actually recorded for the River Flood source but was missing a significant part of the beginning so was generally cut from the copies that got into circulation. The last second or so of Hungry Heart is on my upload before Fire. I understand there are first gen copies around that should have the incomplete track and hopefully will get released in the future. 5. Speed reductions using Audacity for three of the tape sides to match the Bosstrade version. My copy was probably a bit fast.
