1985-06-01 - SLANE CASTLE, SLANE, IRELAND New Tape Transfer 2 TDK D90 cassettes Yamaha KX460 deck with dolby B and play trim slightly positive to boost treble a little. Recorded using Audacity and exported to flac after normalisation. Files split using CD Wave and tested for errors using TLH. No post transfer processing performed other than normalisation. I had the copy of this show as already uploaded to Jungleland and recently matched it against a set of tapes. I obtained these from a UK Record Fair during the time of the tour and verified the tapes were a different source. I also have the 3 LP set "Dancing In Dublin" which I wanted to check out so I transferred both tapes and LPs for A/B comparison. It turns out the tapes are same source as the LPs. However the LPs have issues in that the pressing is off centre and poor with tracks missing. The tapes pre date the LPs and are complete from a music perspective and better quality than my copy of the LPs. There are issues with the tapes. It appears the taper was probably closer to the stage and likely part of the "rhythmic swaying and movement" which is known to have been an issue and caused Bruce some concern. As a result the recording does wander and vary in places. Born in the USA in particular has issues where the taper is clearly struggling to get set up. This source/tape is also prone to some mild distortion which on occasion gets more severe for example during Hungry Heart. In the comments for the Jungleland thread there is mention of a lower quality version and I would guess this may be it. I dont know if a tape copy has been made available as this source is not currently available anywhere that I can find. This version is actually not that bad, is quite listenable and I would certainly expect completists would like a copy so having done the transfer here it is!
