The opening night of the ‘Born In The USA’ Tour is no exception, we currently have 2 sources documented. The Recorder 1 source released on Real Thing’s ‘Street Fighting Man’ and the Recorder 2 source released from Johnny98’s Master tapes as ‘Opening Night Of The Born In The USA Tour’ (Uber Series, Ev2) as well as Hot Stuff’s ‘Opening Night In Saint Paul’ and Godfather’s ‘Ready For The World’. The third source, shared here, has not previously made a silver debut. It comes to us from my first generation source and is a welcome addition indeed. Captured fairly close to the stage, I would consider the show as a whole excellent and a nice addition to this night’s current sources with some of the quieter passages suffering from a very small amount of hiss. In addition there are a few cuts noted above that are patched with Godfather’s ‘Ready For The World’ source. The biggest issue this source suffers from is a technical glitch every few seconds during the majority of “Ramrod”. I’ve replaced this song in almost in its entirety with the Godfather source. I have no idea if this ‘glitch’ is originally in the master or not. There is a possibility my first generation has succumbed to 31 years of storage but it would be unusual for it to only affect that song and after a tape flip. I’m fairly sure the master still exists and I believe there is a good chance it will appear here someday. But until then we can enjoy this excellent first generation copy. The opening night of the tour was a bit of an uneven affair, not touring for 3 years is fairly evident in the pacing and the occasional long pause between songs, playing “Dancing In The Dark” twice for the video footage didn’t help. With that said, I really enjoy this show warts and all, opening nights are always fun and exciting affairs and generally very different than what the show will turn into as it’s worked out. mjk5510
