Darlington County Not the best sound quality, and, unfortunately, the thing that made this show unique -- the power outages -- have been edited out by the taper. But we finally have a recording of the show. The following are notes written by an attendee right after the show. They had a great time! ===================================== Show Start 8:05pm BITUSA (12 String Acoustic) War (Lost Power - Crowd kept singing – 8:11pm) No Surrender The Rising Lonesome Day Darkness on the Edge of Town Empty Sky You're Missing Waiting on a Sunny Day (Lost Power – Crowd Kept Singing – 9:00pm) Promised Land Worlds Apart (Lost power- crowd kept clapping - 9:10 pm) Badlands Out in the Street Rescue Me / Mary's Place / Missing You Countin on a Miracle Backstreets Into the Fire Thunder Road – 10:12 pm --------------------- Bobby Jean Ramrod BTR ---------------- My City of Ruins 10:35 pm LOHAD Dancing in the Dark Glory Days ROSALITA Darlington County. Finish 11:25pm 3 hrs 20 (including singalongs during power outages) My wife & I took our son to his first Bruce show tonight and he really enjoyed it. He was into it singing along, clapping and dancing. I was a really proud Dad tonight. He managed to stay awake until halfway through ‘Rosie’. He on my shoulders for ‘Glory Days’ and I had to put him down when ‘Rosie’ started, fearing that he might be thrown off in my excitement. I looked down halfway through and he had flaked on his chair. Not bad for a 4.5 year old! He got a wave from Steven and Bruce at the end of the first encore, which was cool. He had to pee twice, and we let him go on the hallowed turf of the SCG, one of the only advantages of a stadium show. Again a fairly standard setlist but this show had twists and turns not usually expected at a Bruce show. Four power outages during the show. The crowd was really supportive during the breaks, and was rewarded with 2 excellent extra songs. Although the pacing of the show was affected at the start it literally took off by the end. It absolutely shat on Melbourne as far as intensity, fun and audience goes. Here are some of my comments on the show. BITUSA (12 String Acoustic) War (Lost Power - Crowd kept singing) – SVZ also sang a couple of lines on his own once power came back. Very nice 1-2 in light of the War in Iraq No Surrender - Moved up the setlist tonight. The break in the middle is a nice touch. I was thinking if there was a thematic link there with the No retreat, No Surrender bit. Sort of like saying I don’t like war, but if you have to be there are there don’t lose. The Rising (Lost power Crowd kept doing the Li Li Lis –8:25pm) – Bruce mentions something about having a recurring dream about losing power in front of his audience, but his shrink told him it was just a dream. He then said he wanted his money back. Patti cracked up. Lonesome Day Darkness on the Edge of Town Empty Sky – Patti’s intro is very nice. You're Missing – That organ piece of Danny’s is one of his best. Waiting on a Sunny Day (Lost Power – Crowd Kept Singing) Promised Land Worlds Apart (Lost power- crowd kept clapping - 9:10 pm). What is that guitar Nils plays at the beginning and end of WA. Is it an electric banjo? Badlands Out in the Street Rescue Me / Mary's Place / Missing you. – One verse of “Rescue Me” before the “are you ready?” part. Countin on a Miracle Backstreets – This cooked again Into the Fire – one word - Beautiful Thunder Road --------------------- 10:12 pm Bobby Jean – Ok you can drop it now Bruce! Ramrod – Band leaves the stage letting Roy play a bit of honky tonk piano. BTR ---------------- 10:35 pm Just before MCOR Bruce explains that he will never forget Sydney due to the 4 power outages. My City of Ruins – Bruce sings at the end durung the “with these hands part” - “I pray for peace lord”. Has he been doing this before Australia? LOHAD Dancing in the Dark Glory Days ROSALITA – I lost it!!!! The two nights in Sydney that I didn’t attend in 1985 he played Rosie. I have only ever seen it at the Meadowlands in 1992 and 1999. We think it is the first time outside Jersey since 1988. Rosie came out tonight ! Darlington County - A 10 min version, really loose, country blues, and honky tonk all rolled into one. I was dancing my arse off. Show finished on a High – Faith was rewarded. Did i say, Rosie came out tonight ! Off to bed, I have a wedding tomorrow. BD
