Beatles Schmeatles, the main set opens with "Souls of the Departed" (complete with a new "WMD" Dubya sound-bite intro) and closes with "Who'll Stop the Rain." Add the return of the full-band "Born in the U.S.A." in the encores, and you've got a powerhouse political show with current world events at the fore more than any British Invasion. Two tour premieres tonight: we finally get deeper into Nebraska with a full-band "Johnny 99" (last played by Bruce on the Tom Joad tour in '97), and "Man's Job" has its E Street Band debut, Bruce's first airing of the song in more than ten years. "Night" (replacing the setlisted "Roulette"), "Tunnel," and "Brilliant Disguise" all turn up, and Bruce doesn't shy away from "American Skin" upon returning to New York. In the encores, "Kitty's Back" is tonight's serenade from the second record. (BACKSTREETS) ---------------------------------------------------------- BONUS TRACKS 2003-08-02 Gillete Stadium, Foxboro, MA 03 Racing In The Street * A beautiful "Racing in the Street" that might have been better served had it gone right into "No Surrender." 2003-08-09 Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA 04 Adam Raised A Cain 05 Trapped 06 For You 07 Spirit In The Night 08 Tougher Than The Rest 09 Where The Bands Are * Opened this one up with "Adam Raised a Cain." Some real treats for Philly tonight: full-band "For You" and "Spirit in the Night" for the old-timers, "Tougher Than the Rest" for everyone who thought he'd forgotten about the Tunnel album, and "Trapped" for everyone who... well, for everyone. 2003-09-06 Fenway Park, Boston, MA 10 Be True 11 Across The Border 2003-09-20 Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, Buffalo, NY 12 County Fair * The other thrill-ride song of the night: the never-released, never-performed "County Fair." The song, which dates back two decades, has made the rounds in collectors' circles as a treasured studio outtake, but there never seemed to be hope of hearing the song live. For some, surely the biggest surprise of the tour; this "County Fair" performance featured Danny on accordion and Soozie on fiddle. 2003-09-16 Rentschler Field, Hartford, CT 13 Let's Be Friends (Skin To Skin) * Tour premiere of "Let's Be Friends," the only song from The Rising that remained to be performed live.
