While expectations were held somewhat in check going in, the show ended up being extremely well received by us, and in fact got the nod over the two LA shows we attended and recorded in April. Portland was the show where Bruce first moved "Land of Hope and Dreams" to be the opener, as it would remain for the rest of this final 2012 leg. The highly energized set that followed included several highlights, among them "Loose Ends," "Growin' Up," a rare "If I Should Fall Behind" (played only four times on the Wrecking Ball tour) and a majestic "Drive All Night." Even J had to concede that the River epic has grown in stature since its 2009 revival. After a 27 year layoff from the band's sets, it does sound better than ever. BK for JEMS Recording Note: This one had problems in one channel where there was intermittent mic noises that J removed by hand in Wavelab.
