FIRE

Live 30 Sep 1978 version

[Spoken intro:] This song for Mary ???. It's on Robert Gordon's second album, it's called "Fire".

I'm driving in my car, I turn on the radio
I'm pulling you close, you just say no
You say you don't like it, but girl I know you're a liar
'Cause when we kiss, hmm, fire

Well late at night, I'm taking you home
I say I wanna stay, you say you wanna be alone
You say you don't love me, but you can't hide your desire
'Cause when we kiss, hmm, fire

You had a hold on me right from the start
A grip so tight I couldn't tear it apart
My nerves all jumping acting like a fool
Your kisses they burn but your heart stays cool

Romeo and Juliet, Samson and Delilah
Ah baby you can bet their love they couldn't deny
Your words say split, ah but your words they lie
'Cause when we kiss, hmm, fire, fire, fire, give me love, fire

The 30 Sep 1978 Show

The 30 Sep 1978 show at Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA, was broadcast by about twenty FM radio stations throughout the Southeastern United States. This was a make-up show that was originally slated for 23 Jul 1978 (see ad and ticket below), but was postponed due to Springsteen coming down with a throat infection. On the audio recording, Springsteen can be heard apologizing for being sick and missing the original date.

The 30 Sep 1978 broadcast from Fox Theatre was commercially released in the UK. Since 2005 some enterprising record labels in the UK have been releasing Bruce Springsteen radio and TV broadcasts (and some soundboard recordings) from the seventies, eighties, and nineties. Though these releases are not authorized by Bruce Springsteen or his record company, they are lawful due to a legal loophole in the UK.
