BORN ON THE BAYOU

Live 12 Jan 1993 version

[Fogerty:]
Now, when I was just a little boy
Standin' to my Daddy's knee
My poppa said, "Son, don't let the man get you
Do what he done to me"
'Cause he'll get you
'Cause he'll get you right now, yeah

[Bruce:]
I can remember the fourth of July
Runnin' through the backwood, bare
I can still hear my hound dogs barkin'
Chasin' down a hoodoo there
Chasin' down a hoodoo there

[both:]
Born On The Bayou
Born On The Bayou
Born On The Bayou, do it, do it, do it

[Fogerty:]
I wish I was back on the Bayou
Rollin' with some Cajun Queen
Wishin' I were a fast freight train
Just a chooglin' on down to New Orleans

[both:]
Born On The Bayou
Born On The Bayou
Born On The Bayou, do it, do it, do it

Written by John Fogerty, from Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1969 album Bayou Country.

Played in some small clubs or hotels, with various guests like John Fogerty. Sometimes the last verse is omitted.

Bruce Springsteen played the song live for the first time on 20 Jan 1988 at Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York, NY, during the 1988 Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremonies. Springsteen inducted Bob Dylan.

The next live performance was with John Fogerty on 12 Jan 1993 at Century Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles, CA, once again, during the 1993 Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremonies; the above lyrics refer to that performance. Creedence Clearwater Revival were inducted, and Bruce Springsteen did the induction speech the following day.

Bruce appeared at a Joe Gruschecky & The Houserockers show on 20 Aug 1994 at Marz American Style, Long Branch, NJ. The song was sound-checked but not played on the show.

Also performed around 20 Dec 1999 at McLoone's Rumrunner, Sea Bright, NJ, with Bobby Bandiera's band.

The last known performance was with Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes on 27 May 2001 at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, during their 25th anniversary of their legendary 1976 radio broadcast at the Stone Pony. This was probably Bruce's earliest club appearance since 1983, as the show ended at about 9:30 pm.

The above lyrics are for the live 12 Jan 1993 version with John Fogerty at Century Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles, CA. See also the original Creedence Clearwater Revival version.

Thanks Jesse for the help.
