I WANNA BE WILD

Studio version

I'm staying, I'm staying, but baby you're killing me
And you know, you darlin', you better now make it on time
And I want a forever and ever with you around
You're running with speed and, uh, you better learn to work hard
There's nothing at all, no one's like us, no one is there outside

O-oh
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild

Hey maybe you're cool but baby you're both'rin me
And only you can put me out of my misery
And I go out in the street for my love every time
And I wanna show love swinging round, when you're around
I don't remember, maybe you've been feelin' a motor outside

Oooh wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild

Big Man!

Right now I wanna drive wild
And I wanna drive wild
And I wanna be wild
And I wanna go wild
And I wanna go wild
And I wanna go wild
And I wanna go wild
And I wanna go wild
Want you to kiss me wild
And I wanna be wild
And I wanna go wild
And I wanna be wild
And I wanna see wild
And I wanna feel wild
And I wanna be wild
And I wanna be wild
It's up to you, no one knows, no one is there outside

O-oh
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I just wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
I wanna be wild
Whoa!

Info

I WANNA BE WILD is a song written by Bruce Springsteen and recorded during the Darkness On The Edge Of Town sessions. The above lyrics are transcribed from the circulating version of the song.

Circulating Versions

There are actually two versions of this Darkness On The Edge Of Town outtake in circulation. The first one has "Don't say no" repeated in the chorus, and therefore it is known under the title "Don't Say No" (see DON'T SAY NO for more details). The second (from which the above lyrics are transcribed) has "I wanna be wild" repeated in the chorus, and therefore it is known under the title "I Wanna Be Wild". They are practically the same song and they share the same music, but have alternate work-in-progress lyrics.

Studio Recording

The Darkness On The Edge Of Town sessions took place at both Atlantic Studios and The Record Plant in New York City, NY, between early June 1977 and late December 1977. It is not clear from which period DON'T SAY NO and I WANNA BE WILD were recorded, but they probably emanate from The Record Plant. Both songs suffer from weak sound quality (vocals very low in the mix), which makes the lyrics unintelligible. According to Brucebase, a take of this song with the title "I Want To Be Wild" was recorded at The Record Plant on 11 Nov 1977.

This studio version of I WANNA BE WILD can be found on the Deep Down In The Vaults (E. St. Records) bootleg.
