The show was held at the VCU New Gym. It was headlined by Cactus with The Bruce Springsteen Band second on the bill. Though not mentioned on the show's promotional poster (see below), local band Morning Son were the opening act. An audience recording of the show is in circulation among collectors. The audio quality is only fair at best.
LIVE IN ROCK AND ROLL is known to have been performed at least once in Bruce Springsteen's early years (pre-October 1972), on 30 Oct 1971 in Richmond, VA, with The Bruce Springsteen Band. Very little is known about shows from this early period, and therefore, the song may have been played on some more dates in 1971 and possibly in 1972.
