Home demo version 1
...well mister when you're young
They bring you up to do, yeah, what your daddy done
I worked construction with the Jenkins company
Lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
Man don't need no buildings, don't need men to build a home
Well a man don't need me, goodbye me
Oh Angelyne, I'm running to you, I'm running to you
Oh Angelyne, when you're on the wire you walk the line
I met Mary at General High School
I pick her up in my 413
And we drive away from the valley down to where the fields where green
And I got Mary pregnant, man that was all she wrote
Got me a Union card and a wedding coat
Judge, he put it all to rest
No walk down the aisle, no wedding dress
Oh Angelyne, I'm running to you
Oh Angelyne, when you're on the wire, you walk the line
OH ANGELYNE is a song written by Bruce Springsteen. It's an early working of THE RIVER.
As far as it's known, OH ANGELYNE was not recorded in studio. However four acoustic home demo takes of the song are in circulation among collectors: home demo version 1, home demo version 2, home demo version 3, and home demo version 4. These takes were recorded at Springsteen's home in Holmdel, NJ, sometime between January and June 1979. The four takes constitute different parts of the song and, theoretically, can be stitched together to form one complete song.
The above lyrics are for an acoustic home demo of OH ANGELYNE recorded at Springsteen's home in Holmdel, NJ, sometime between January and June 1979. This version can be found on The Lost Masters Vol. 6 (Labour Of Love) [track 06] and The Definitive River Outtakes Collection Volume 1 (E Street Records) [disc 2, track 16] bootlegs.
