TALK TO ME

Live 19 Dec 2004 (early show) version

[Spoken intro:] This is a song I wrote for Southside. Let's not fight — take it easy boys!
I always wanted to be able to watch TV while I was playing. I'll be with you in a minute, we stopped that one! This is how I won 'em over 'fore the show. Yup. Soon as he sticks that — there it is, boys!

Ah-one, two, three!

Every night I see a light up in your window
Every night you won't answer your door
I know you won't ever let me in
From the street I can see your silhouette sitting close to him
What can I do
What can I say
What does it take
To get you to

Talk to me
Until the night is over
Talk to me
'Til the night is over, oh yeah yeah yeah
I got a full week's pay
Baby, I've been working hard each day
I'm not asking for the world, you see
I'm just asking girl
Talk to me

Late at night I hear the music that you're playing soft and low
Late at night I hear the two of you swaying
I don't understand darling what was my sin
Why am I down here below while you're up there with him
What must I do
What can I say
To get you to

Talk to me
Well, until the night is over
Oh baby, talk to me
Until the night is over, yeah yeah yeah
I got a full week's pay
And, baby, I've been working hard each day
I'm not asking for the world, you see
I'm just asking girl
Talk to me
Come on, band!

I don't understand darling what was my sin
Why am I down here below while you're up there with him
What can I do
What can I say
To get you to

Talk to me
Until the night is over, yeah, yeah, baby
Talk to me
Until the night is over, yeah, yeah, yeah
I got a full weeks pay
Baby, I've been working hard every day
I'm not asking for the world, you see
I'm just asking, girl, talk to me
I'm down on my bended knees
Talk to me

Oh yeah, it hurts.
Everybody
Say it, everybody
Ooh, everybody
Are you ready now?
Are you ready now?
Are you ready now?
Are you ready? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready? Come on, boys!

Talk to me
Until the night is over
Talk to me
Until the night is over, yeah, yeah, yeah
Talk to me
Until the night is over
Talk to me
Until the night is over

The above lyrics are for the live 19 Dec 2004 early show performance of TALK TO ME at Harry's Roadhouse in Asbury Park, NJ, during the first of the two holiday jam shows that were held that day at Harry's Roadhouse. The song was played in a full-band arrangement backed by Bobby Bandiera and his band. This was the first time that Springsteen performed the song live with him only on vocals.
