AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU
Live 07 Dec 2010 version
One, two, one two three four!
Whoa!
Well you don't like, don't like the way I walk
And you don't like, don't like the way I talk
You criticize about me endlessly
Logic defies how you get stuck with me
Well you complain about the clothes I wear
And you explain there's other boys out there
You explain that it makes too much noise
And you then cry I'm always out
Whoa whoa whoa whoa (whoa whoa whoa whoa)
I quit little darling (hey hey little darling)
Yeah no matter what I do, girl you know it's true
Ain't good enough for you, hey!
Well you complain about the way I love you at night
And you explain I'm really not your type
If we go out, you say I'm such a bore
If we stay in, you say what are we living for
I don't understand, there's nothing I can do
There ain't no way I can satisfy you
End of the night I lean in for a kiss
Here comes the pitch, a swing and a miss
Whoa whoa whoa whoa (whoa whoa whoa whoa)
I quit little darling (hey hey little darling)
Yeah no matter what I do, girl you know it's true
Ain't good enough for you, hey!
Charles!
Come on Charlie!
Whoa!
Da da da da da da
Professor!
Mighty professor, the melody!
Whoa whoa whoa whoa (whoa whoa whoa whoa)
Hey-hey little darling (hey hey little darling), come on!
Yeah no matter what I do, girl you know it's true
Ain't good enough for you
Alright!
I tried to change, I got a job in sales
I bought a shirt uptown in Bloomindales
And babe I tried to make the latest scene
Hitting cool (just like Jimmy Iovine)
[chuckles] ...record with all the latest grooves
A book of love with all the latest moves
I bought some flowers, I came to your door
You came out, didn't wanna see me
Whoa whoa whoa whoa (whoa whoa whoa whoa)
Hey little darling (hey hey little darling)
Yeah no matter what I do, girl you know it's true
Ain't good enough for you
Hey no matter what I do, girl you know it's true
Ain't good enough
Alright, now!
That's right!
Yeah, go on!
One two three!
Da da da da (da da da da)
Da da da da (da da da da)
Da da da da da da, da da da da da da
Da da da da da da, da da da da da da
Da da da da (da da da da)
Da da da da (da da da da)
Da da da da da da, da da da da da da
Da da da da da da, once more!
Da da da da (da da da da)
Da da da da (da da da da)
Da da da da da da, da da da da da da
Da da da da da da, (da da da da da da)
Da da da da (da da da da)
Da da da da, da da da da
Da da da da da da, da da da da da da
Da da da da da da, da da
Hey!
Whoa!
Alright everybody, alright! Alright, alright!

The song was played twice, and the above lyrics are for the take that was part of
a webcast the following week and that was officially released in 2011 (read below for more
details). It is unclear which of the two takes was webcast and released. In a
Backstreets.com review, Flynn McLean
wrote: "The first song after the break was 'Ain't Good Enough For You,' and 'Showman Bruce'
returned with a vengeance, first requesting that fans come as close to the stage as possible,
enabling him to sing directly to the fans in front of him. Loose now, he returned to his pitching
roots, physically illustrating the 'here comes the pitch' lyric. He also asked fans to join the
band on stage when they got to the 'da da da' part, by which time Bruce was on the piano, again
giving it more of house party feel than one of a video shoot."
"Songs From The Promise" Webcast
On 07 Dec 2010 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed a concert in
front of no more than 60 people at the historic Carousel House in Asbury Park, NJ. They played ten
songs from The Promise, in addition to the holiday classic BLUE CHRISTMAS. Most – if not
all – of the songs were sound-checked prior to the show which lasted nearly four hours. Below is
a list of the songs performed during the show, in order. All of the songs were performed several
times, consecutively.
- RACING IN THE STREET (performed twice)
- GOTTA GET THAT FEELING (performed twice)
- OUTSIDE LOOKING IN (performed twice)
- ONE WAY STREET (performed twice)
- COME ON (LET'S GO TONIGHT) (performed twice)
- SAVE MY LOVE (performed three times)
- THE BROKENHEARTED (performed twice)
- AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU (performed twice)
- THE PROMISE (performed twice)

The band comprised of its original 1978 lineup only: Bruce Springsteen (guitar,
lead vocals, harmonica), Roy Bittan (keyboards), Clarence Clemons (saxophone, percussion, vocals),
Garry Tallent (bass guitar), Steve Van Zandt (guitar, vocals), and Max Weinberg (drums). Charlie
Giordano played organ, substituting for the late Danny Federici. David Lindley, who was involved
in the early recording sessions of Darkness On The Edge Of Town, played violin on
RACING IN THE STREET, COME ON (LET'S
GO TONIGHT), THE PROMISE, and BLUE
CHRISTMAS. GOTTA GET THAT FEELING,
THE BROKENHEARTED, TALK TO ME, and BLUE CHRISTMAS featured a full horn section comprising of Ed
Manion, Barry Danielian, Curt Ramm, Clark Gayton, and Stan Harrison.
Footage for five songs from the 07 Dec 2010 concert
(RACING IN THE STREET,
GOTTA GET THAT FEELING,
AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU,
THE PROMISE, and BLUE CHRISTMAS) were
released internationally on 15 Dec 2010, streaming online for free viewing. Titled "Songs
From The Promise", the webcast was directed and edited by Thom Zimny and mixed by Bob
Clearmountain.
These same five tracks are included as bonus material on The Promise: The
