BENEATH THE FLOODLINE©

17 Sep 1984 sound-check

Put on your white boots
Come down on Main Street
Where the assassin shoots
and sound that rock and roll beat
Where Gypsy dancers dance
And roll the night away
Where cowboy figures ride
Ya, just to fade away

They say they're listening
But they ain't even trying
Their blood is glistening
Glistening down on the vine
Beneath the Floodline
Beneath the Floodline

Little girl you're oh so cruel
I know a Gypsy says it's true
I got more money than your daddy's got
And I just want to make love to you
We need a night, baby
Out past the dead end signs
Down past the little creek
Out where the river winds
Beneath the Floodline
Beneath the Floodline

According to Brucebase, BENEATH THE FLOODLINE is one the final tracks recorded during the Born In The USA sessions. No studio recording of song has surfaced.

The song was sound-checked prior to the 17 Sep 1984 show at The Philadelphia Spectrum. The sound-check was audience-recorded but the quality is below average, making the lyrics mostly intelligible. The above is an attempted transcription of the lyrics from that sound-check. The song was never played in concert and no other sound-check has been reported.

It is believed BENEATH THE FLOODLINE was re-vamped and re-recorded during the Tunnel Of Love sessions. Again, no studio recording has surfaced.

Back in 1985-86, when info first surfaced about the unknown song rehearsed in Philadelphia, there were different titles thrown around, including "Beneath The Boulevard". Of course, this title is incorrect.
