Totally rearranged by Bruce Springsteen: originally faster, Bruce slows it down giving it a dramatic pace. Also lyrics are partially different. Premiered during The River tour on 19 Apr 1981 at the Palais Des Sports, Paris, France. It was the opener of the show. Played 25 times during that tour. Played 11 time during the Born In The USA tour. Later played on 13 Oct 1986 at the Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, CA, during an acoustic evening to benefit The Bridge School. Sound-checked during the Tunnel Of Love Express tour on 15 Apr 1988 at the F. Erwin Center, Austin, TX, and played only once during that tour on the request of a fan on 14 Jul 1988 at the St. Jakob Stadium, Basel, Switzerland. Later played 6 times during the Human Touch tour in 1992 and on 26 Jun 1993 at Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY, for a Kristen Ann Carr Fund Benefit Concert. Sound-checked during the Reunion tour on 01 May 1999 at the Manchester Evening News Arena, UK, and played on 18 Mar 2000 at the Pyramid Arena, Memphis, TN. Played only once during The Rising tour on 28 Jun 2003 at the San Siro Stadium, Milan, Italy. Also sound-checked before that show. These lyrics refer to the 1983 studio version that appears on the Murder Incorporated, The Lost Masters Vol. 17, The Lost Master Essential Collection Vol. 1, and The Genuine Tracks bootlegs.
