GOIN' DOWN SLOW©
I feel you breathin' real low
I feel your heart beatin', well a beatin' real slow
Well I oughta be leavin', but mama you got it so I just can't get up and go
Well this makes us even, makes us even woman now that you know
Woman you know
Well I set the fire and you're the first to go
It's getting higher and I'm gonna watch
I watch it goin' down slow
Said I'm gonna get up and watch it goin' down slow
I said woman you made the thorns and projections
And she comes with a long long list, mass of directions
Any man is full, full of bloody dissections
And she leaves behind a body of long long list of human rejections
Yes she does
Whoa she does
Yeah she does
Well I set the fire and you're the first to go
It's getting higher and I wanna yeah
I wanna watch it goin' down slow
You're gonna see me watch it goin' down slow
Well I feel you breathin' real low
I feel your heart beatin', baby beatin' woman so slow
Well I oughta be leavin', woman got herself a man can't go
This makes us even, this makes us even, wo-woman you know
???, ???, ??? yeah
Come and get it
Well she's the best little woman I ever seen around
Just the kind of little woman that puts'em down
The finest little woman in the whole damn town, and the prettiest thing I've seen
I'm goin' down
She come and goin' down
She come and goin' down
I never wanna see this town, whoa
Yeah whoa, gypsy woman got that spell on me
Well I saw it, gypsy woman got a spell on me
Oh I know she get it higher, ohhh
I set the fire and you're the first to go
It's getting higher and I watch
I watch it movin' down slow
Well I watch it, watch it goin' down, I said goin' slow
Goin' down slow
Goin' down slow
Goin' down slow
Goin' down slow
The first known performance of this Steel Mill track was on 20 Sep 1969 at Free University, Richmond,
VA. Also performed on 13 Jan 1970 at The Matrix, San Francisco, CA, and on 18 Apr 1970 at Ocean County
College, Toms River, NJ. Rumours claim that it was also performed on 04 May 1970 at Monmouth College, Long
Branch, NJ (read below). These lyrics refer to the 13 Jan 1970 performance.
From Brucebase,
about the 04 May 1970 at Monmouth College, Long Branch, NJ:
This gig is sometimes referred to as "Kent State Massacre Show", referring to the fact it took
place the very evening following the shooting deaths of several unarmed students by National Guard at Kent
State University. The deaths caused protests and civil disturbances in many College and University campuses on
this night (and the following two nights). Many scheduled events (particularly rock concerts) on this night
ended up being hastily cancelled by school officials across the US. Indeed, there are conflicting reports
about whether this Steel Mill show at Monmouth took place. It has been rumored that Bruce opened this show
with a blistering 10-minute rendition of the protest anthem FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH. Other rumored songs played
include GUILTY, I AM THE DOCTOR, GOIN' DOWN SLOW, and RESURRECTION.
