Live 07 Dec 2010 version

One, two, one two three four

One two three four!

Hey girl, now won't you come on out tonight
Now girl, where the stars are shining bright
Gotta get that feeling (gotta get that feeling)
Yeah we gotta get that feeling (gotta get that feeling)
Yeah-eah-eah back again
Whoa-oh back again

Tonight, there's something in the air
Tonight, we ain't got money but we don't care
We just gotta get that feeling (gotta get that feeling)
I wanna get that feeling (gotta get that feeling)
Before the night is through
I want you to get that feeling too

Hold me in your arms, the night will take care of us
Come the rain or the storm love will be be there for us
Yeah yeah yeah

[Sax solo]

Tonight, you know there's something in the air
Tonight, we ain't got money but we don't care
We just gotta get that feeling (gotta get that feeling)

Whoa-oh back again (oh back again)
Yeah-eah back again (yeah-eah whoa-oh-oh)
Gotta get that feeling (gotta get that feeling)

The song was played twice, and the above lyrics are for the second take, which was part of a webcast the following week and was officially released in 2011 (read below for more details). In a Backstreets.com review, Flynn McLean wrote: "'Gotta Get That Feeling,' the second song, really got up on its feet in the concert setting. The horns [...] made their entrance on this one, and on the first take, they joined in for Clarence's solo; on the second, after some notes, they came in on the second verse, as on the album. Clarence hit his solo spot on, and the horns complemented him perfectly."

"Songs From The Promise" Webcast

On 07 Dec 2010 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed a concert in front of no more than 60 people at the historic Carousel House in Asbury Park, NJ. They played ten songs from The Promise, in addition to the holiday classic BLUE CHRISTMAS. Most – if not all – of the songs were sound-checked prior to the show which lasted nearly four hours. Below is a list of the songs performed during the show, in order. All of the songs were performed several times, consecutively.

  • RACING IN THE STREET (performed twice)
  • GOTTA GET THAT FEELING (performed twice)
  • OUTSIDE LOOKING IN (performed twice)
  • ONE WAY STREET (performed twice)
  • COME ON (LET'S GO TONIGHT) (performed twice)
  • SAVE MY LOVE (performed three times)
  • THE BROKENHEARTED (performed twice)
  • AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU (performed twice)
  • THE PROMISE (performed twice)

The band comprised of its original 1978 line-up only: Bruce Springsteen (guitar, lead vocals, harmonica), Roy Bittan (keyboards), Clarence Clemons (saxophone, percussion, vocals), Garry Tallent (bass guitar), Steve Van Zandt (guitar, vocals), and Max Weinberg (drums). Charles Giordano played organ, substituting for the late Danny Federici. David Lindley, who was involved in the early recording sessions of Darkness On The Edge Of Town, played violin on RACING IN THE STREET, COME ON (LET'S GO TONIGHT), THE PROMISE, and BLUE CHRISTMAS. GOTTA GET THAT FEELING, THE BROKENHEARTED, TALK TO ME, and BLUE CHRISTMAS featured a full horn section comprising of Ed Manion, Barry Danielian, Curt Ramm, Clark Gayton, and Stan Harrison.

Titled "Songs From The Promise", the webcast was directed and edited by Thom Zimny and mixed by Bob Clearmountain.
