I DON'T WANT NO MORE OF THIS ARMY LIFE

Traditional version

Five o'clock in the morning
and I gaced up on the wall
Bedbugs and the roaches
were having a game of ball

Score was six to nothing
and the bedbugs were ahead
The roaches hit a homer
and knocked me outta bed

I don't want no more of this army life
Gee, Mom, I wanna go home
No, I don't want to more of this army life
Gee, Mom, I wanna go...
Oh boy, do I wanna go...
Gee, Mom, I wanna go home

This comic traditional song -- about a baseball game between the bedbugs and the roaches -- was popular during World War II, and the above lyrics are for the version that was popular during that time. The song is a mocking description of army life. It was sung by Bugs Bunny in a Warner Brothers cartoon film during the war years.

Bruce Springsteen performed I DON'T WANT NO MORE OF THIS ARMY LIFE live only once, during the Bridge School Benefit Concert of 28 Oct 1995 at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA. Check out Springsteen's live 28 Oct 1995 version.
