OH NO NO NO
My man he don't listen, he don't even care
It's like the words come out of my mouth, and disappear in thin air
He reads his newspaper or watches TV
Whatever happened to the love he swore on me
My woman don't know what she's talkin' about
The words flow like a river out of her mouth
She never stops bitchin' but she's gonna see
Who wears the pants in this romance, you know that it's me
Well there's gonna be a shootout to see who runs this show
I'm tired of your bitchin', I'm gonna let you know
But everytime I start into talking she makes me so mad
I just throw up my hands and scream
No no no no no, No no no no no
And a no no no, with a ah ah ah and a hey hey hey
why does love have to be this way, tell me mama

Words and music by Bruce Springsteen. Lyrics transcribed from a titled and completed lyric sheet in
Springsteen's handwriting with chord notations. There is no known circulating audio of the song. It was
written around the time of the formation of the Bruce Springsteen Band (mid-1971). Springsteen has
noted on his lyric sheet "3-way"; it seems likely from the context of the verses that it was intended
that either Delores Holmes or Barbara Dinkins (back-up singers during The Bruce Springsteen Band era)
sing lead vocal on the first verse, and Springsteen sings lead on the 2nd and 3rd verses, and a 3-way
harmony sung on the final verse.
From the male chauvinism nature of the lyrics, one can assume that Holmes and Denkins refused to
perform this song, neither in studio nor live, which explains why no studio or live audio has ever
surfaced.
The handwritten lyric sheet was auctioned on the
It's Only Rock 'N Roll online auction
website in Jun 2006. The bid on this item started at $500.00, and reached $2221.44.
