WHO DO YOU LOVE©

Live 28 Jun 1988 version

I walk 47 miles of barbed wire, I got a cobra-snake for a necktie
I got a house down by the roadside, made it from rattlesnake hide
It got a little chimney right on top, made from human skull
Come on take a walk with me, Arlene, tell me who do you love

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?

[SHE'S THE ONE]

Written by Ellas McDaniel, and originally by Bo Diddley from his 1956 single WHO DO YOU LOVE / I'M BAD. He later included it on his 1964 LP Bo Diddley's 16 All-Time Greatest Hits.

According to some reports, Bruce Springsteen sound-checked WHO DO YOU LOVE during the Tunnel Of Love tour on 04 Apr 1988 at Capital Center, Landover, MD. No info whether he played the whole song or just a snippet of it. Note that Bo Diddley's BO DIDDLEY was also sound-checked that night. One would assume that Bruce was experimenting with several songs to find what could be a good intro to SHE'S THE ONE for the second half of the tour. Seems that WHO DO YOU LOVE was chosen.

SHE'S THE ONE was played on each night of the Tunnel Of Love. AIN'T GOT YOU was used as intro to the song from the beginning of the tour till 25 Jun 1988, and WHO DO YOU LOVE replaced it from 28 Jun 1988 till the end of the tour.

The above lyrics refer to the live 28 Jun 1988 performance at Feyenoord Stadium, Rotterdam, Holland (the first time WHO DO YOU LOVE was used). Check also the from the following night, live 29 Jun 1988 version (very few variations) and Bo Diddley's original version, which is much more developed of course.
