Notes from info file: This historic Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band show features the Darkness on the Edge of Town and Born To Run albums in their entirety, plus encores. The band has never performed these albums in their entirety before. The Count Basie Theatre holds about 1500 and this was the band's first performance in a venue this small in 30 years. The show was a benefit to raise money to renovate the historic Count Basie Theatre; it raised $3 million, with auction ticket prices ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per seat. The recording sounds quite good for an audience recording from the back of the orchestra. There is some crowd clapping, yelling, singing along, and a little talking, but it's not too obnoxious. The band drowns out the audience during most songs. I'd rate it 8.5/10. This is my first torrent and I hope you enjoy it! Comments from the taper: First of all, I'm thrilled that so many have had the opportunity to listen to the show. The show now has more downloads off dimeadozen than actual attendees! Second, it is amazing that people would spend that kind of $ and then not STFU!!! You may notice that disc 1 has more screaming and singing than the other disks. That's cause the chick on Ecstasy was gone after the first set. We saw several people too f**ked up to enjoy the show - what a waste! Third, someone said that Bruce was compromising his artistic ideals by playing this old stuff in album fashion. I'd say instead that he understands his audience and gives them what they want. The guy paying $15k for a seat is not Vinny Boombatz from Jersey City. It's some stockbroker with a $1Million bonus. There were casual fans there as well as hardcore. They got a one-of-a-kind evening filled with hits. That's because Bruce understands who he is playing to. And as for the forest of Ubertaper gear... I saw none at all back by the soundboard. Someone may have had mics on the balcony rail, I didn't look. I hope another higher quality tape surfaces, but I didn't see any evidence at the show. This may be it, for better or worse. So enjoy and crank it up. And I welcome any and all comments on the recording, the torrent, and the show itself. Keep 'em coming. |
