Notes from the bootleg liner notes:
This release features recordings made at one of the most baffling Bruce Springsteen events ever, a 1995 video shoot to make a promotional video for Hungry Heart. The exact reasons to fly Bruce Springsteen to Germany to film a video for a fifteen year old song with a bunch of German musicians he had never performed with may be a little hard to fathom, and though the song would actually be released as a single again in a few European markets, to a marked indifference from the buying public, the film received precious little airplay and was not easily available to fans until the 2001 DVD issue of Video Anthology.
The contents of this release are taken from a rough cut of the filming sessions at the Cafe Eckstein on a hot Sunday evening, where in between takes of Hungry Heart (of which only one take is featured here) Bruce and his new found band for this night only ran through several rock and roll barroom standards and a couple of his best known songs. Bruce and his band seem to (be) having a good time on stage, as do most of the audience, though many of them are actually located on the street outside the bar with a fairly limited view of the proceedings on that tiny stage.
We hope you enjoy this high quality document of one of the strangest projects of Bruce Springsteen's career!!
