So the story goes, Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony D6 with either a Sony 929 or 939 microphone (memories have faded on which exact mic) and TDK metal tapes. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. The next to last show of the Los Angeles stand featured one of the few tour premieres on the entire stand, beautiful reading of Ry Cooder’s “Across the Borderline”. The audio of “Tougher Than The Rest” and “Born to Run” were officially released from this show, so please do not upload this to Dime-a-Dozen. Recorder One is “Across the Borderline…With the Boss” on Eagle Records was the first complete Tunnel of Love show to appear on Bootleg CD in the late 80’s/early 90’s. The source tape was at least a couple of generations removed from master. There is a high-pitched noise now and then and a few other warts. Recorder Two the Two of Us master have always been a tough listen for myself. The over all quality of their recordings are excellent but the need to patch so much of the show makes repeated listens difficult. Joe’s master no gives us three sources to date. It certainly isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s the best to source to date.. It was moderately distant requiring me to apply some heavier than normal tinkering to get it to sounds more upfront. Joe only misses a couple of seconds of the show, the mandatory tape flip between “Roulette” and “Cover Me”. All three tapers flipped at the same spot so no patch is available. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.TUNNEL OF LOVE 02.BE TRUE 03.ADAM RAISED A CAIN 04.TWO FACES 05.ALL THAT HEAVEN WILL ALLOW 06.SEEDS 07.ROULETTE 08.COVER ME 09.BRILLIANT DISGUISE 10.SPARE PARTS 11.WAR 12.BORN IN THE U.S.A. 13.TOUGHER THAN THE REST 14.AIN'T GOT YOU - SHE'S THE ONE 15.YOU CAN LOOK (BUT YOU BETTER NOT TOUCH) 16.I'M A COWARD 17.I'M ON FIRE 18.ONE STEP UP 19.PART MAN, PART MONKEY 20.ACROSS THE BORDERLINE 21.DANCING IN THE DARK 22.LIGHT OF DAY 23.BORN TO RUN 24.HUNGRY HEART 25.GLORY DAYS 26.ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) 27.HAVE LOVE WILL TRAVEL 28.TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT 29.SWEET SOUL MUSIC 30.RAISE YOUR HAND Known faults: Tape flip between "Roulette" and "Cover Me". No patch is available. From Brucbase WikiDot: Premiere of "Across The Borderline", which has been in the soundcheck repertoire for some time. "Cover Me" includes "Gimme Shelter" in the outro. "Part Man, Part Monkey" includes "Love Is Strange" in the outro. Audio recordings of "Tougher Than The Rest" and the solo acoustic "Born To Run" from this show were officially released on vinyl and CD EPs later that year; video footage of both songs was also included on the Video Anthology VHS/DVD. "Born To Run" was released on several CD singles without the spoken introduction. On the Video Anthology the intro is included. An alternate version of the "Tougher Than The Rest" video in circulation features a few different black-and-white intercuts from the L.A. Sports Arena stand, including footage of Bruce and Clarence kissing. Audience tape ('Two Of Us). Two recording sources circulate, the first is available on CD 'Across The Borderline... With The Boss' (Eagle Records) and from the 'Two Of Us' master tapes.. The second is an incomplete tape that is missing "Tunnel Of Love" and also has several small cuts throughout the rest of the show. All missing parts are patched with the Eagle Records source.
