Up to August 1991, the year printed on the artwork and/or obi of Japanese CDs was represented with a letter. The date was in the form "Y-M-D", where "Y" is a letter from the name "NIHON RECORD KYOUKAI" (Japan Records Association). "N", "I", "H", "O", "R", "E", "C", and "D" indicate 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991 respectively.
This issue has a box-type obi. Such obis are closed/glued on the top and bottom, partially covering front and back sides and top and bottom spines of the jewel case. They were used on all Bruce Springsteen albums issued in Japan up to and only up to 1986.
