Early draft
Little Angel split (dusted) E Street + broken she dances
Topless at night down in the heart of Toyland
The saints filled with rusty old rods
+ surfers who come in just to waste the night away
They try to get closer ??? nearer
Stoned on dope + (hearts) tequila
With their beach blue eyes they call
With those eyes they nail her to the wall
She's got Angel's face
She's got Angel's shoes
She's got Angel's eyes
She's got Angel's blues
Don't die, dance little Angel
Don't cry, don't laugh
Cause somewhere there a part of you in Angel's Blues
ANGEL'S BLUES is an unreleased song written by Bruce Springsteen. According to Brucebase, it was written in mid to late 1973. No studio recording of the song is known to exist.
Some lyrics from ANGEL'S BLUES were later used in ANGEL BABY and LONELY NIGHT IN THE PARK.
Bruce Springsteen performed ANGEL'S BLUES live in 1974. The live performance of the song was also bootlegged under the title "She's So Fine".
The above lyrics are for an early draft of ANGEL'S BLUES, as found on a sheet titled "Angels Blues" [sic] and featuring very different lyrics to what was later performed live (see the live 10 Mar 1974 (late show) version). The lyrics sheet surfaced on eBay in May 2020. It's handwritten by Bruce Springsteen in blue ballpoint on a ruled notepaper.
ANGEL'S BLUES is known to have been performed at least once during what is considered The Wild, The Innocent, & The E Street Shuffle Tour (September 1973 to March 1975), on 10 Mar 1974 in Houston, TX. Some of that period's setlists are incomplete or unknown, and therefore, the song may have been played on some more dates during The Wild, The Innocent, & The E Street Shuffle Tour.
As far as it's known, no artist has recorded and released Bruce Springsteen's ANGEL'S BLUES.
