Live 27 Jul 2013 version
[Bruce Springsteen (spoken intro):] We're gonna bring Glen Hansard out to sing one with us.
Bruce Springsteen: | When I lost you honey, sometimes I think I lost my guts too |
I wish God would send me the word, send me something I'm afraid to lose
Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives
I get shivers down my spine, girl, all I wanna do is hold you tight
Bruce Springsteen: | Baby baby baby, I swear I'll drive all night again just to buy you some shoes and taste your tender charm |
And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms, oh yeah, oh yeah
Glen Hansard: | But tonight there's fallen angels and they're waiting for us down in the street |
And tonight there's calling strangers, hear them crying in defeat
Let them go, let them go, let them go do their dances of the dead
Let 'em go right ahead, girl, and dry your eyes
And come on come on come on come on, let's go to bed baby
Glen Hansard: | Baby baby baby, I swear I'll drive all night again just to buy you some shoes and to taste your tender charms |
And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms, oh yeah, oh yeah
Jake Clemons: | [saxophone solo] |
Bruce Springsteen: | There's machines and there's fire, baby, waiting on the edge of town |
Glen Hansard: | They're out there for hire but baby they can't hurt us now |
Bruce Springsteen: | Because you've got, you've got, you've got my, you've got my love, girl, you've got my love, girl, oh-ho |
Glen Hansard: | Through the wind, through the rain, the snow, the wind, the rain |
You've got my, you've got, you've got my love, oh girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love, oh girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love, oh girl you've got my love
Springsteen and Hansard: | Heart and soul, heart and soul |
Glen Hansard: | Heart and soul |

And don't cry now | |
No don't cry now | |

[Bruce Springsteen (spoken outro):] Glen Hansard!
The above lyrics are for the live 27 Jul 2013 performance of DRIVE ALL NIGHT at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, Ireland, during the Wrecking Ball Tour. The song was played in its full-band arrangement and featured a guest appearance by Glen Hansard on vocals and acoustic guitar. Hansard traded vocals with Springsteen and sang a few lines from Them's HERE COMES THE NIGHT towards the end of the song. Hansard was one of the show's opening acts and he joined Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band for DRIVE ALL NIGHT. Later that year he released a cover of Springsteen's DRIVE ALL NIGHT. See Glen Hansard's cover version for more details.
Hansard later commented about his 27 Jul 2013 guest appearance: "We had the great fortune of playing with Bruce which is unusual because I don't think Bruce has many opening acts, but we got on the bill and I got to speak to him a little bit and he said 'do you wanna sing a song?'. So I got to sing this song with him, so it's kind of a strange coincidence that this record [Drive All Night] was coming out anyway, and it's kind of a perfect way to introduce it in a way. So I'm very honored."
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band concluded the 2013 European leg of the Wrecking Ball Tour with two shows at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, Ireland, on 27 and 28 July 2013. The Saturday-Sunday shows were billed the "Wrecking Ball Weekender" and were headlined by Springsteen and the band, with opening acts Josh Ritter, Damien Dempsey, and Glen Hansard on the first day, and Delorentos, LAPD, and Imelda May on the second day.
