The Wooldridge Brothers' cover version
Well now you say you've found another man who does things to you that I can't
And that no matter what I do it's all over now between me and you
Well I can't believe what you say
No I can't believe what you say
'Cause baby
I don't wanna fade away
No darling, I don't wanna fade away
Tell me what can I do what can I say
'Cause darling I don't wanna fade away
Well now you say that you've made up your mind
It's been such a long time since it's been good with us
That somewhere back along the way you lost your faith and I lost your trust
Now rooms that once were so bright, they're filled with the coming night
Darling
I don't wanna fade away
No darling, I don't wanna fade away
Tell me what can I do what can I say
'Cause darling I don't wanna fade away
You say it's not easy for you, that you've been so lonely
While other girls go out doing what they want to do
You say that you miss the nights when we'd go out dancing
The day when you and I walked as two
Well girl I miss them too, oh you know that I do
Oh-oh girl
Now baby I don't wanna be just another useless memory holding you tight
Or some other guy out on the street to whom you stop
And politely speak as you pass on by, vanishing into the night
Left to vanish into the night
But baby
I don't wanna fade away
Oh darling, I don't wanna fade away
Tell me what can I do what can I say
'Cause darling I don't wanna fade away
No darling, I don't wanna fade away
Oh baby, I don't wanna fade away
Tell me what can I do what can I say
Oh darling I don't wanna fade away
No no darling
Don't make me darling
Don't make me darling
Don't make me darling
Don't make me darling
I don't wanna fade away
Yeah I don't wanna fade away
Well I don't wanna fade away
No, I don't wanna fade away
No, I don't wanna fade away
No, I don't wanna fade away
No, I don't wanna fade away
No, I don't wanna fade away
No, I don't wanna fade away
Don't make me darling
Don't make me darling
Don't make me darling
Don't make me
I don't wanna fade away

Liner notes from the Downbound Train EP:
In 1981 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were touring in support of their new double album The River. Scott Wooldridge had been a big Bruce fan since the first albums. At this time he was a freshman at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Springsteen was coming to Indianapolis and Scott went out and got three tickets. He had planned on taking a guitar player friend and a girl he liked, but she couldn't make it. So he gave the ticket to me, his younger brother. I was a senior in high school and just getting into the Springsteen sound. When we went to the show I only had heard about five Springsteen songs in my whole life. We listened to a few albums as we drove from Kokomo, our hometown, to Indianapolis. Springsteen and company played for three hours and changed my whole view of Rock-n-Roll. It was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen and embedded Springsteen and the E Street Band into our Rock-n-Roll Roots.
For this project I picked the album and Scott picked the song. "Fade Away" is a great Springsteen romantic rock song. The passion he puts into his songs always drives the mood and message straight to the heart of the listener.
─Brian & Scott Wooldridge
In addition to its release on the Downbound Train EP, The Wooldridge Brothers' cover version of FADE AWAY was also included on two more releases related to the One Step Up / Two Steps Back: The Songs Of Bruce Springsteen various artists tribute album.
