Original The Music Explosion version
Now, when you're feeling low and the fish won't bite
You need a little bit o' soul to put you right
You got to make like you want to kneel and pray
And then a little bit o' soul will come your way
Now when your girl is gone and you're broke in two
You need a little bit o' soul to see you through
And when you raise the roof with your rock 'n' roll
You'll get a lot more kicks with a little bit o' soul
And when your party falls 'cause ain't nobody grooving
A little bit o' soul, and it really starts moving, yeah
And when you're in a mess and you feel like crying
Just remember this little song of mine
And as you go through life trying to reach your goal
Just remember what I said about a little bit o' soul
A little bit o' soul, yeah, a little bit o' soul
Little bit o' soul, yeah, a little bit o' soul
Little bit o' soul, yeah, a little bit o' soul
Little bit o' soul, yeah, a little bit o' soul
Little bit o' soul, yeah, a little bit o' soul
Little bit o' soul...
LITTLE BIT O' SOUL is a song written by John Carter and Ken Lewis. The Music Explosion released the song on their 1967 album Little Bit O' Soul. The song was also released as a single in April 1967. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The above lyrics are for the original The Music Explosion version of LITTLE BIT O' SOUL as released in 1967.
Bruce Springsteen performed LITTLE BIT O' SOUL once in 2009. He also used a snippet of the song in TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT during The Reunion Tour. See the live 13 Oct 2009 version for more details.
Though the song was originally relased by The Little Darlings in 1965 (see the original The Little Darlings version), it is The Music Explosion's 1967 recording of the song that Bruce Springsteen was likely familiar with.
