Little Bob Story's cover version
One two three four
Billy bought a Chevy '40 coupe deluxe
Chrome wheels, stick shift, hey well, pop the clutch
Little girl on the corner like a diamond they shine
Someday, Billy, I'm gonna make 'em all mine
Hey girl, you wanna ride in Daddy's Cadillac
Because I love the way your long hair coming down your back
Oh Billy boy, Billy's at the Seaside Bar
Running by the sea and listen to his guitar
You say your mama's gonna meet you when the morning comes
Yeah, your papa's gonna beat you because he knows you're on the run
I'm gonna live a life of love, tonight you're the one
The highway is alive tonight so baby don't be frightened
There's something about a pretty girl on a sweet summer night that get this boy excited
The radio man finally understands, plays something you can move to
You lay back easy 'cause you want to drive so long your girl lean over, say
"Daddy can you turn that radio louder?"
One two three four
Juke joints humming, everybody came down
Little Willie and the Soul Brooms looked down in on the show down
Well, don't let the daylight steal your soul
Get in your wheels and roll, roll, roll, roll, oh, oh, yeah
Come on let's ??? now
???
See, your mama's gonna meet you when the morning comes
Yeah! And papa's gonna beat you because he knows you're out on the run
I wanna live a life of love, tonight you're the one
Ohhh ??? now, ha ha ha ha
The above lyrics are for Little Bob Story's (studio) cover version of Bruce Springsteen's SEASIDE BAR SONG. The French band released it in France on their 1978 album Come See Me.
Roberto Piazza (Little Bob) wrote in the liner notes of the One Step Up / Two Steps Back: The Songs Of Bruce Springsteen tribute album:
Wile touring England with Little Bob Story in May of 1978, my publisher played me a demo of five unreleased Springsteen songs. "Seaside Bar Son" reminded me of my hometown, Le Havre (on the northwest coast of France), and all the good times I used to spend there with my friends at the bars by the sea. I was already a Springsteen fan, so I was exited when I received permission to record the song. It was quickly recorded in a small studio near Brighton, England and released by RCA/France in Oct of 1978 on our album Come See Me.
In addition to its release on their album Come See Me, Little Bob Story's studio cover of SEASIDE BAR SONG was also released as a single in 1978. A live version recoded in June 1979 at the Music Machine in London, UK, was released on a live album in 1979. That same live version was included in 1997 on the various artists Bruce Springsteen tribute album One Step Up / Two Steps Back: The Songs Of Bruce Springsteen because, according to the album's liner notes, the studio version was in poor condition and the 24-track masters proved difficult to locate, so Little Bob found the live version instead and remixed it in 1997 at Davoust Studios in Paris, France.
