Live 06 Oct 2008 version
[Spoken intro:] Obama. Obama. Got one more for you Ypsilanti. Alright. Yeah, alright. Close to Ann Arbor, is that where we gonna be? I think I opened for Black Oak Arkansas there. Hey, who remembers Black Oak Arkansas, I don't know even. (chuckles) Alright. Alright, here we go. Give me a little ???.
Yes we can!
Come on! Yes we can!
Say it! Yes we can!
Go! Yes we can!
Go! Yes we can!
Go ahead! Yes we can!
Shh! Yes we can!
Yes we can!
Yes we can!
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
Yeah this land was made for you and me
As I was walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me the endless sky
I saw below me a golden valley
Yeah this land was made for you and me
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
Yeah this land was made for you and me
I roamed and I rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
Yeah this land was made for you and me
Well the sun come shining as I was strolling
Through the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
And the fog was lifting and a voice come chanting
Yeah this land was made for you and me
In the squares of the city, in the shadow of the steeple
By the Relief Office I saw my people
And some are grumbling and some are wondering
If this land's still made for you and me
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
Yeah this land was made for you and me
Let them hear you in Washington!
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
Yeah this land was made for you and me
Yeah!
Yes we can!
Yes we can!
Say it! Yes we can!
Say! Yes we can!
It's up to you, say! Yes we can!
Yes we can!
Yes we can!
Yes we can!
[Spoken outro:] Thank you Michigan, thank you Ypsilanti. Support Senator Obama and John Biden, vote! Let's take it over ???.
The above lyrics are for the live 06 Oct 2008 performance of THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, MI, during the third of the four Vote For Change events on which Bruce Springsteen appeared. The song was played in a solo acoustic guitar and harmonica arrangement. At the beginning and at the end of the song, Springsteen led the crowd into the "Yes we can" chant (marked in bold) while stumping his guitar. The last chorus was sung along with the crowd.
In 2008, Bruce Springsteen appeared on four election rallies for U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama. These election rallies were billed as "Vote For Change". Accompanied only by his acoustic guitar and harmonica, Springsteen performed six to eight songs on each of the four rallies.
