Live 14 Jan 2014 version
Jimmy Fallon: | Allright! |
Jimmy Fallon: | In the day we sweat it out on the streets stuck in traffic on the GWB |
They shut down the tollbooths of glory 'cause we didn't endorse Christie
Sprung from cages on Highway 9, we got three lanes closed, so Jersey get your ass in line
Whoa, maybe this Bridgegate was just payback, it's a bitch slap
To the state Democrats, we got to get out but we can't
We're stuck in Governor Chris Christie's Fort Lee New Jersey traffic jam
Yeah! Hey yeah! Yeah! I can't hear you! Hey!
Bruce Springsteen: | Governor, let me in, I wanna be your friend, there'll be no partisan divisions |
Let me wrap my legs 'round your mighty rims and relieve your stressful condition
You got Wall Street masters stuck cheek-to-cheek with blue collar truckers
And man, I really gotta take a leak but I can't
I'm stuck in Governor Chris Christie's Fort Lee New Jersey traffic jam
Fallon and Springsteen: | One! Two! Three! Four! |
Jimmy Fallon: | Highway's jammed with pissed off drivers with no place left to go |
And the press conference went on and on
Bruce Springsteen: | It was longer than one of my own damn shows |
Jimmy Fallon: | Someday, Governor, I don't know when this will all end, but till then |
Fallon and Springsteen: | You're killing the working man |
Who's stuck in the Governor Chris Christie Fort Lee New Jersey traffic jam
Whoa whoa-oh whoa | |
Whoa whoa-oh whoa | |
Bruce Springsteen: | I gotta take a leak! |
Jimmy Fallon: | Whoa-oh oh-oh whoa-oh whoa |
Whoa oh oh oh oh | |
Bruce Springsteen: | I really gotta take a leak! |
Jimmy Fallon: | Whoa-oh oh-oh whoa-oh whoa |
Fallon and Springsteen: | Down in Jerseyland |
GOVERNOR CHRISTIE TRAFFIC JAM is a comical parody mocking the recent Fort Lee lane closure scandal in which a staff member and political appointees of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have been shown to have conspired to create traffic jams in Fort Lee, NJ, starting at a New York-bound, upper-level, toll plaza entrance to the George Washington Bridge. The song uses the same melody of Bruce Springsteen's BORN TO RUN and much of its lyrics. The altered lyrics are prpbably written by Jimmy Fallon.
The above lyrics are for the live 14 Jan 2014 performance of GOVERNOR CHRISTIE TRAFFIC JAM on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The NBC show is filmed in Studio 6B in the GE Building at Rockefeller Center in New York City, NY. The song was performed as a duet with Jimmy Fallon, in an acoustic arrangement. About tweleve minutes into the show, Jimmy Fallon took the stage for a comedy skit, dressed up as Bruce Springsteen from the Born In The U.S.A. era, wearing sunglasses, a sleeveless denim vest, a wig and a headband, and strumming an acoustic guiar. After the first verse, Springsteen himself walked onstage in the same outfit.
Springsteen and Fallon have done their spoof duet three times: in 2010 they performed Willow Smith's WHIP MY HAIR, in 2012 they performed LMFAO's SEXY AND I KNOW IT, and in 2014 they performed GOVERNOR CHRISTIE TRAFFIC JAM.
For his only TV appearance to promote the High Hopes album, Bruce Springsteen appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on 14 Jan 2014, the album's official release date. He first performed GOVERNOR CHRISTIE TRAFFIC JAM with Jimmy Fallon as part of a comedy skit, and then, after a 15-minute interview with Fallon, he joined the extended E Street band (including Tom Morello and Patti Scialfa, but not Steven Van Zandt) and performed three songs from the new album: HIGH HOPES, HEAVEN'S WALL, and JUST LIKE FIRE WOULD.
GOVERNOR CHRISTIE TRAFFIC JAM was performed off-tour on 14 Jan 2014 at Rockefeller Center in New York City, NY, during a TV appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The song was played in an acoustic arrangement, as a duet with Jimmy Fallon.
