[Southside Johnny:]
Doo, doo, doo, doo
Doo, doo, doo, doo
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo
Doo, doo
Ba, ba, ba, doo, doo
Ba, ba, boo, boo, boo (ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba)
Mm, mm, mm, mm (da, da, da, da)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah (oh, yeah, oh, yeah)
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh, oh)
La, la, la, la, la, la (la, la, la, la, la, la)
La, la, la, la, la, la (la, la, la, la, la, la)
Come on, come on, come on, baby (come on, come on, sweet baby)
Come on, come on, pretty baby (come on, come on, sweet baby)
Come on, come on, pretty baby (come on, come on, pretty baby)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
[Southside (with Springsteen singing backup):]
Everybody's swingin'
Dancin' to the music
On the radio
So listen, Mister DJ
Keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby
We're havin' a party
Dancin' to the music
Played by the DJ
Back on the radio
Oh, the Coke is in the icebox
[Bruce Springsteen:] Oh, the popcorn's on the table
[Southside (with Springsteen singing backup):] Me and my baby
Are out here on the floor
We're havin' a party
Everybody's swingin'
Dancin' to the music
On the radio
So listen, Mister DJ
Oh, keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby
Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba!
I'm out late with my baby
I know that you just love to go and do do huh-huh-huh!
I know Sally's doin' something
I got a few requests
[Bruce Springsteen:] Don't forget to play that song called "Soul Twist"
And do the one called "I Know"
And don't forget "The Mashed Potato"
No other song will do
[Southside (with Springsteen singing backup):] We're havin' a party
Everybody's swingin'
Dancin' to the music
On the radio
So listen, Mister DJ
Keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby
[hooting and shouting]
Wish me luck when I go
Everybody is going to do the twist now
If you take requests, I
I got a few for you
[Bruce Springsteen:] Don't forget the "Soul Twist"
Play that little song called "I Know"
Play that song called "Mashed Potato"
No other song will do
[Southside Johnny (with Springsteen singing backup):] We're havin' a party
Everybody's swingin'
Dancin' to the music
On the radio
So listen, Mister DJ
Oh, keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby
We're havin' a party
Everybody's swingin'
Dancin' to the music
On the radio
So listen, Mister DJ
Oh, keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby
Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba!
We're havin' a party
Everybody's swingin'
Dancin' to the music
On the radio
So listen, Mister DJ
Oh, keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby
I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby
I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin'
Whoo, ooh, ooh
[Bruce Springsteen:] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[Southside Johnny:] How's that sound on that song, okay? You don't like me? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoo!
Whoa, huh
Whoa, whoa, whoa, gee, time, after today
[All:] Whoa, yeah
[Southside Johnny:] Oh, oh, oh
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, oh, oh, me
Whoa, yeah
I'm havin' such a good time, good, good, good
Oh, baby!
Whoa, whoa, whoa, yeah! (whoa, whoa, whoa, yeah!)
[Bruce Springsteen:] The Jukes!
The above lyrics are for the live 13 Sep 1977 performance of HAVING A PARTY at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Bruce Springsteen joined Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at one of their gigs at the club for a five-song set, the second of which was HAVING A PARTY.
This was a benefit concert for Bob Campanell, lead singer of The Shakes who were a house band at the club at the time. According to Brucebase, recollections differ as to if this gig was with the E Street Band or just Southside Johnny and his band, but the general consensus is that Springsteen joined Southside alone, without the E Street Band. Photos taken by Peter Howes at this show seem to confirm that. This would mean that the audio recording allocated to this date is associated incorrectly.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
