Live 29 Apr 2003 version
Southside Johnny: | 'Cause we're havin' a party, say yeah |
Everybody's swingin', baby
And dancin' to the music, yeah
On the radio, whoo, ooh, ooh, ooh
So listen, Mister DJ (hoo hoo)
Won't you keep those records playin' (ah, ah)
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time (ah, ah)
Dancin' with my baby | |
Southside Johnny: | We're havin' a party |
Dancin' to the music | |
Played by the DJ | |
On the radio | |
The Cokes are in the icebox
The popcorn's on the table
Me and my baby | |
Are out here on the floor
All: | We're havin' a party |
Dancin' to the music (everybody's swingin')
Played by the DJ | |
On the radio | |
So listen, Mister DJ | |
Keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby | |
Southside Johnny: | I know everyone's swingin' |
Bruce Springsteen: | I wanna see Southside do the twist, now! |
Southside and Springsteen: | If you take requests, I |
Got a few for you | |
Southside Johnny: | Don't forget the "Soul Twist" |
Play that one called "I Know"
I got to hear "Sue Me" | |
No other songs will do | |
All: | We're havin' a party |
Everybody's swingin' | |
Dancin' to the music | |
On the radio | |
So listen, Mister DJ | |
Keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time
Dancin' with my baby | |
Southside Johnny: | Say it a second time. |
Bruce Springsteen: | Throw me over my guitar, fellows! One more! One guitar! Oh! |
Southside Johnny: | Everybody's swingin' |
Everybody's doin' the twist, now
If you take requests, well
Oh, I got a few for you | |
What do you think, Bonds?
Gary U.S. Bonds: | Don't forget the "Soul Twist" |
Play that one called "I Know"
Can't forget "Sue Me" | |
Southside Johnny: | No other songs! |

Everybody's swinging | |
Dancin' to the music | |
On the radio | |
So listen, Mister DJ | |
Go on and keep those records playin'
'Cause I'm havin' such a good time

The above lyrics are for the live 29 Apr 2003 performance of HAVING A PARTY at Count Basie Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ, during "The Hope Concert" benefit. The song featured Bruce Springsteen backed by the Max Weinberg 7, with Southside Johnny on shared lead vocals, plus Jon Bon Jovi, Gary U.S. Bonds, and all the other guests from the show on backing vocals.
The 29 Apr 2003 show at Count Basie Theatre, billed "The Hope Concert", was a benefit for Robert Bandiera Jr., son of Bobby Bandiera, who suffers from a rare neurological disorder and requires full time care. Along with Bobby Bandiera and his band, the concert featured Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Gary U.S. Bonds, The Max Weinberg 7, Southside Johnny, and others.
Bobby Bandiera is a New Jersey guitarist and songwriter whose relationship with Bruce Springsteen dates back to the early eighties, when Bandiera was the front man of Cats On A Smooth Surface. The band was throughout the eighties the house band at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. They backed Springsteen on drop-in appearances mostly at The Stone Pony but also at other clubs around the Jersey Shore. Bandiera was reportedly considered for the guitarist position in the E Street Band for the Born In The U.S.A. Tour in 1984 when Steve Van Zandt left the band, but this position went to Nils Lofgren. Bandiera joined Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes in 1985, and continued to perform with Springsteen at various off-tour shows, including club appearances, benefit concerts, and Holiday shows. Bandiera remains one of Springsteen's most frequent non-E Street Band musical mates.
