The song was played in an acoustic arrangement, with Bruce Springsteen on lead vocals and acoustic guitar and Patti Scialfa on harmony vocals and acoustic guitar.
The hour-long special event was broadcast at 07:00 p.m. Eastern Time on 22 Apr 2020. It was produced by Joel Gallen and featured some of New Jersey's most famous performers and celebrities participating from their homes to fight the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state and honor those on the front lines. Donations raised by the fundraiser supported the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund.
Bruce Springsteen and wife Patti Scialfa performed two songs from Stone Hill Studio, Springsteen's permanent recording facility at Stone Hill Farm, his horse ranch in Colts Neck, NJ. They kicked-off the event with LAND OF HOPE AND DREAMS and near the end they returned to perform a cover of Tom Waits' JERSEY GIRL.
Other participants that took part in Jersey 4 Jersey included in order of appearance Jon Stewart, Jon Bon Jovi, Whoopi Goldberg, SZA, Danny DeVito, Charlie Puth, governor Phil Murphy and first lady Tammy Snyder Murphy, Chelsea Handler, Tony Bennett, Kelly Ripa, Saquon Barkley, Halsey, Stephen Colbert, Fountains Of Wayne, and Chris Rock. The broadcast also highlighted the efforts of health care workers in the state and those on the front lines. Information on stopping the spread of the pandemic was also included in the special.
