Live 28 Oct 1995 version
[Spoken intro:] Yes. Alright. (tunes guitar) We take pride in tuning our own. If I can get the motherfucker in tune. Alright, alright. (continues tuning guitar) Alright let me try this, uh...
Do you say your prayers little darling, do you go to bed at night
Praying that tomorrow everything will be alright
Well tomorrow's fall in number, in number one by one
You wake up and you're dying, you don't even know what from
Well yeah, well they shot you point blank
You been shot in the back, baby, point blank
You been fooled this time, yeah that's a fact
Yeah right between the eyes, baby, point blank
Right between the pretty lies they sell
You grew up where young girls grow up fast
Took what you were handed and left what was asked
But what they asked wasn't right
You didn't have to live that life
Now I was Romeo, you were Juliet
These days you wait on that welfare check
And all the pretty things you'll never have
And all the promises
That always end up point blank
Yeah shot between the eyes, point blank
Like the little white lies you tell to ease the pain
They got you in their sights, point blank
You're just one false move, one false move away
Well once I dreamed we were together again, baby, you and me
Back home in those old clubs the way we used to be
We were standing at the bar, it was hard to hear
The band was playing loud, you were shouting something in my ear
Pulled my jacket off, the drummer counted four
You grabbed my hand and took me out on the floor
You just stood there and you started dancing slow
I pulled you tighter and swore I'd never let you go
Well I saw you last night on the avenue
Your face was in the shadows but it was you
You were standing in the doorway out of the rain
You didn't answer when I called out your name
You just turned and then looked away
Like just another stranger waiting to get blown away
Point blank, you been shot right through the heart
Point blank, till you're just another part of it
Point blank, they got you right between ??? eyes
Point blank, you're right between the pretty lies they tell
They got you in their sights
Point blank, you're just one false, one false move away
The above lyrics are for the live 28 Oct 1995 performance of POINT BLANK at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA, during the ninth Bridge School Benefit concert. The song was played in a solo acoustic guitar and harmonica arrangement.
The Bridge School Benefit is an annual charity concert organized by Neil Young's wife (until 2014) Pegi Young. Almost every one of the concerts, which started in 1986 and were held every year since 1998, has taken place at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. Proceeds from the concerts benefit the Bridge School, a non-profit organization in Hillsborough, CA, for children with severe speech and physical impairments. The school aims to help the children achieve full participation in their communities through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technologies (AT). It was founded in 1986 by Pegi Young, Jim Foreder and Dr. Marilyn Buzolich. Bruce Springsteen has performed at two of these benefits: the first edition in 1986 and the ninth edition in 1995.
The ninth annual concert took place on 28 Oct 1995 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA, and featured in the line-up Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Beck, Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois, The Pretenders, and Hootie & The Blowfish. Springsteen performed solo during his set.
The first eight songs are Bruce Springsteen's set, featuring Springsteen solo. The last song is the concert's finale featuring all of the evening's performers.
