Live 17 Jun 2000 version
[Spoken intro:] All right! There's something we've never played before in our long and illustriously illustrious careers. I'm not sure we can play it now, but we're gonna try. All right, boys!
Come on, band!
Well, sparks flying on E Street where the boy prophets walk it handsome and hot
The little girls' souls grow weak when the man-child gives them a double shot
Schoolboy pops pull out all the stops on a Saturday night
And them teenage tramps in skin-tight pants do the E Street dance and it's all right
Them kids down, either dancing or hooked up in a scuffle
Dressed in snake-skin suits packed with Detroit muscle
Doing the E Street Shuffle
Well, those E Street brats in twilight duel flashlight phantoms in star stream
Down fire trails on silver nights with blonde girls pledged sweet sixteen
The newsboy says the heat's been bad since Power Thirteen gave a trooper all he had in a late summer scuffle
Power's girl, Little Angel, out on the corner keeping them crazy boys out of trouble
Little Angel step the shuffle like she's got no brains
She's deaf in combat down on Lover's Lane
She drives all those local boys insane
All right, are you ready now?
Well, I say, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yeah, everybody form a line
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yeah, everybody form a line
One, two, three!
Yeah, sparks light on E Street where the boy-prophets walk it handsome and hot
The little girls' souls grow weak when the man-child gives them a double shot
Little Angel hangs out at Easy Joe's, it's a club where all the riot squad goes when they're cashing in on a cheap hustle
The boys still on the corner loose and doing that lazy E Street Shuffle
As those sweet summer nights turn into summer dreams
Little Angel picks up Power and slips on his jeans
And they move on down to the scene
Yeah, everybody's dancing
Now, wait for it, boys!
Are we ready?
Show the man how!
Well, I said, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yeah, everybody form a line
Whoa, whoa, whoa
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
Yeah,
everybody form a line
I said, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yeah, everybody form a line
Whoa, whoa, yeah
(Whoa, whoa, yeah)
Yeah, everybody form a line
Come on, C! Let's go!
Come on, Danny!
Come on, Roy!
Once more!
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah,
yeah, yeah)
Yeah, oh, everybody form a line
One, two, three!
Whoa!
[Spoken outro:] Oh, yeah! (laughs) Thanks!
The above lyrics are for the live 17 Jun 2000 performance of THE E STREET SHUFFLE at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY, during The Reunion Tour. The song was played in a full-band arrangement reminiscent of the album rendition but without additional horns, which subsequently would become the "stock" version for the E Street Band.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
