Live 03 Mar 1974 (late show) version
Oh!
Whoa, everybody!
Well, sparks light on E Street where the boy prophets walk it handsome and hot
All the little girls' souls grow weak when the man-child gives them a double shot
Them schoolboy pops pull out all the stops on a Friday night
Them teenage tramps in skin-tight pants do the E Street dance and it's all right
Oh, they're either out dancin' or hooked up in a scuffle
Dressed in snake-skin suits packed with Detroit muscle
Doin' the E Street Shuffle
Now, yeah!
Oh, them E Street brats in twilight duel flashlight phantoms in full star stream
Down fire trails on summer nights with blonde girls, sweet sixteen
Ah, Power Thirteen said the heat's been bad since he gave a trooper everything he had in a late summer scuffle
Kids are on the corner loose and doin' that lazy E Street Shuffle
Whoa, Little Angel does the shuffle like she got no brains
She's deaf in combat down on Lover's Lane
Drives them boys insane
Oh, yes she does
Little Angel say, "Whoa, whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Everybody form a line
Whoa, whoa, yeah
Whoa, whoa, yeah
Everybody form a line"
Yeah, sparks light on E Street where the boy-prophets walk it handsome and hot
Oh, the little girls' souls grow weak when the man-child gives them a double shot
Whoa, Little Angel works at Easy Joe's, a joint where all the riot squad goes when they're checking in for a cheap hustle
Them kids are on the corner loose and doin' that lazy E Street Shuffle
As summer nights turn into summer dreams
Little Angel picks up Power, snaps on his jeans
Moves on down to the scene
Ah, everybody's dancin'
We're havin' a party (havin' a party)
Havin' a party (we're havin' a party)
We're havin' a party (we're havin' a party)
We're havin' a party (we're havin' a party)
Whoa!
The above lyrics are for the live 03 Mar 1974 late show performance of THE E STREET SHUFFLE at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, during what is considered The Wild, The Innocent, & The E Street Shuffle Tour. The song was played in a full-band album-style arrangement very much like the 1973 performances, and concluded with a snippet of Sam Cooke's HAVING A PARTY.
Bruce Springsteen and the band played two shows at Georgetown University on 03 Mar 1974: an early show at 7:30 p.m. and a late show at 10:30 p.m. Bruce Springsteen was the headliner and Orleans were the opening act. The shows were held at the university's 750-seat Gaston Hall. There is no known audio recording from the early show, but Springsteen's late show (minus the last song) was simulcast on the University's popular radio station WGTB-FM. The broadcast now circulates on several bootlegs in excellent soundboard quality.
The 03 Mar 1973 late show broadcast from Georgetown University was commercially released in Europe. Since 2005 some enterprising record labels in Europe (mostly in the UK) have been releasing Bruce Springsteen radio and TV broadcasts (and some soundboard recordings) from the seventies, eighties, and nineties. Though these releases are not authorized by Bruce Springsteen or his record company, they are lawful due to a legal loophole in Europe.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
