Holland LP variants: Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.

Mainly to discuss Bruce Springsteen collectables: official vinyl, CD, tape... and maybe some physical bootlegs too.

I know that CBS records transitioned from the orange label to the sunburst label sometime in the mid-seventies, and then from the sunburst label to red label around mid-1985.

I think the transition from the orange label to the sunburst label did not happen everywhere at the same time... in Oceana, in Holland, in the UK...

1) Does anybody know exactly when the transition happened?
2) Does anybody know if "The Wild" (and maybe "Born To Run" too) was released in Holland on orange labels

As far as I know, these albums were issued on orange labels:

Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.
- UK
- Holland
- Australia

The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle
- UK
- Australia

Born To Run
- Australia
- New Zealand
- South Africa

Wow - it exists with orange labels. I heard only rumours about it but never saw it. Heard the same rumours also about Wild & Innocent but that source also told me that BTR was released only with sunburst labels.

I got my copy last week at a record store in Lausanne. It was a good find. If I find another one I'll sure get it.

Logically an orange-label pressing of The Wild must exist. But I would like to confirm that. If you ever see a copy, physically or online, please post here.

As for Born To Run... accordion to this Discogs discussion, "The orange center label used until around 1976." But I think that's inaccurate. It may apply to Oceania and South Africa, but not to Europe.

In the UK, CBS Records switched from Orange labels to Sunburst labels gradually between early 1974 and mid 1975. They first switched the labels for the singles and then later they switched the labels for the albums. I concluded that based on what I read on these two pages:
- http://www.searchingforagem.com/1960s/C ... Labels.htm
- http://www.cvinyl.com/labelguides/cbs.php

I tend to believe that CBS Records in Holland switched from Orange labels to Sunburst labels around the same time as in the UK. So there is a very low chance, in my opinion, that initial Dutch pressings of Born To Run had orange labels.

But Wild always had a 1975 imprint on the Holland pressings. Maybe because of poor sales of Greetings and with the BTR hype it got released too. But that is only speculation.

Actually that's not true. I know of four label versions for the Dutch pressing of The Wild. It's strange, but the earlier two designs have 1975 and the later two designs have 1973!

As for Greetings, they all have 1975, except for the early orange label, which has 1973. It's a mess. I can't conclude any rule from these 1973/1975 imprints.

Anyway, I will soon create a "Holland LP variants: The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle" thread so that we catalog the different pressings.

Typo in your first post:

(same sleeve a version 1) => (same sleeve as version 1)

Your version 1 copy really look like the labels are red.

Typo corrected.

Those labels vary from orange to very dark orange, depending on the printing.

I ordered another version with price sticker. I will post complete info when I receive it.

I guess it will be better not to list these (officially) snickered copies as separate versions, but as variants of certain versions. I will modify the first post and remove the other stickered version and list separately as a side note.

HI EVERYONE
YES. IT EXISTS ONE HOLLAND VERSION OF "THE WILD,THE INNOCENT..." WITH ORANGE LABELS. I HAVE GOT A COPY.
THE CATALOGUE NUMBER IS "S 65780 (KC 32432)""AND THE LABEL IS SIMILAR TO THE "GREETINGS" ONE.

AT THE BOTTON OF THE BACK COVER IS WRITTEN "SHOREPAK BY SHOREWOOD PACKAGING/PRINTED IN HOLLAND.
ON THE TOP RIGHT CORNER THE CBS LOGO IS INSIDE A RECTANGLE WITH THE CATALOGUE NUMER "65780" BELOW. OUT OF THE RECTANGLE, AT THE BOTTON, THERE IS A CODE: "B" INSIDE A CIRCLE.

There is a Israel variant with orange labels too.
But I don't know if Greetings and Wild were edited with this color of label.
