Live 11 Jun 1999 version
One, two, three, four!
Teardrops on the city
Bad Scooter searching for his groove
Like the whole world walking pretty
And you can't find the room to move
Everybody better move over, that's all
Running on the bad side
With my back to the wall, say
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Say it, say it again
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Ah, stranded in the jungle
Taking all the heat they were giving
Yeah, now, the night is dark and the sidewalk bright
And lined with the light of the living
From a tenement window a transistor blasts
Turn around the corner things got real quiet real fast
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Say it!
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Well, I'm all alone, I'm all alone
[Clarence Clemons:] Kid, you'd better get the picture!
I'm on my own, I'm on my own
And I, and I can't find my way back home, now
So!
Mo'!
Mo'!
It's all right
It's all right (it's all right)
It's all right, now (it's all right, now)
It's all right (it's all right)
It's all right, now (it's all right, now)
It's all right (it's all right)
It's all right, now (it's all right, now)
It's all right (it's all right)
It's all right, now (it's all right, now)
Keep on moving (keep on moving)
Move on up, now (move on up, now)
Keep on moving (keep on moving)
Move on up, now (move on up, now)
A little bit harder (a little bit harder)
A little bit higher (a little bit higher)
Little bit harder (a little bit harder)
Little bit higher (a little bit higher)
It's all right (it's all right)
It's all right, now (it's all right, now)
It's all right to have a good time (it's all right to have a good time)
It's all right to have a good time (it's all right to have a good time)
[Spoken:] Yeah, it's the E Street Band! Everybody! That's right! Now, yeah, I want to see who's on Tenth Avenue tonight. I think I see the Professor, come on, play it, Roy! Hey, hey, hey, hey! Professor Roy Bittan on the piano! Come on, Steve! Whoa! Little Steven on the guitar! All right, all right. Come on, Garry! From southern Italy! Whoa! All right. Here come Max! Come on, Mighty Max! Ah, come on, boys! Hey!
[Patti Scialfa:] They say there's a light, through darkness shine
[Patti Scialfa:] Two hands protect that light against the change of time
[Patti Scialfa:] So I don't care where we go, baby, I don't care what we do
[Patti Scialfa:] As long as I can be with you
[Spoken:] Patti Scialfa on guitar and vocals! All right. All right. Ho dimenticato qualcuno. Cui? Cui? Cui? Say what? Say who? Say what? Say who? Say what? Say who? Say what? Say who? Say what? Say who? Say what? Say who?
Yeah, they made that change uptown
And the Big Man joined the band
From the coastline to the city
The little pretties raise their hand
I'm gonna sit back right easy and laugh
When Scooter and the Big Man bust this city in half
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Say it, say it again
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Say it one more time
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
One more time
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Everybody form a line
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Say it one more time
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Everybody form a line
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Say it one more time
(Tenth Avenue freeze-out)
Say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say!
Oh, ah
Yeah, whoa!
Oh yeah, it's all right, now
It's all right
[Spoken outro:] The E Street Band! The E Street Band! The E Street Band! The E Street Band! Hey, buono! Take a bow, girls, take a bow!
The above lyrics are for the live 11 Jun 1999 performance of TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa, Italy, during The Reunion Tour. The song was played in a heavily extended full-band version including band introductions and a variety of interpolated songs and song snippets: The Impressions' IT'S ALRIGHT, Curtis Mayfield's MOVE ON UP, RED HEADED WOMAN, and Patti Scialfa's AS LONG AS I (CAN BE WITH YOU). Danny Federici, Roy Bittan, and Nils Lofgren also played the traditional TARANTELLA NAPOLETANA on accordion while Bruce Springsteen danced with his mother and aunts and Steven Van Zandt played a snippet of Nino Rota's THE GODFATHER LOVE THEME for his guitar solo.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
