Live 26 Jun 1993 version
[Spoken:] See if I remember the chords!
Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground
Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot clappin' his fingers clappin' his hands
Professor, help me out!
Some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand
And now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand
Some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers, "Daddy's within earshot, save the buckshot, turn up the band"
And we were blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tight, but she'll make it alright
Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
Said, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that's where they expect it least"
Some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone watchin' the young girls dance
Some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone to remind him of the feeling of romance
He was blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
He got down but he never got tight, he's gonna make it alright
Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes
She said, "I'll turn you on sonny, to something strong if you'll play that song with the funky break"
And some Go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in her curly-wurly, asked me if I needed a ride
Oh, some hazard from Harvard was drunk on beer sippin' backyard bombardier
Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent some dude with a calling card, said, "Do what you like, just don't do it here"
Well, I jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground
Asked him which was the way back home
Said, "Take a right at the light, keep goin' straight until night, and then, boys, you're on your own"
Now in Zanzibar some shootin' star was ridin' in a side car hummin' a lunar tune
And the avatar said, "Blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar we're gonna teach these boys to laugh too soon"
Some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night
Well I unsnapped his skull cap, between his ears I saw a gap and figured he'd be all right
Oh, he was blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
We got down but we never got tight, he's gonna make it alright
Oh, I think I forgot something!
I think I messed up the words somewhere!
Mama told me never to look into the sights of the sun
But he said, "Oh, mama that's where the fun is"
I was blinded
I was blinded, I was blinded
I was blinded, I was blinded
I was blinded, I was blinded
I was blinded, I was blinded
I was blinded, I was blinded
The above lyrics are for the live 26 Jun 1993 performance of BLINDED BY THE LIGHT at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY, during the World Tour 1992-1993. The song was played in a solo acoustic guitar arrangement.
The 26 Jun 1993 show at Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY, was the last of the World Tour 1992-1993. Billed as "Kristen Ann Carr Fund Benefit Concert", it raised money for the Kristen Ann Carr Fund.
Kristen Ann Carr (1971 - 1993) was the daughter of Barbara Carr, Bruce Springsteen's co-manager, and the stepdaughter of Dave Marsh, Carr's husband since Kristen was three years old and Springsteen's official biographer. Kristen died on 06 Jan 1993 at the age of twenty-one due to liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer that arises in fat cells in deep soft tissue. At her request, Dave Marsh, Barbara Carr, Kristen's sister Sasha, and Kristen's fiancé Michael Solomon founded the Kristen Ann Carr Fund. The fund is an organization dedicated to supporting research in the treatment and cure of sarcoma, as well as improving the lives of adolescents and young adults with cancer.
The summer before her death, Kristen and Solomon worked on the European leg of Springsteen's world tour, organizing bar trips and sightseeing expeditions for his new band. The couple had planned to use Springsteen's IF I SHOULD FALL BEHIND as their wedding song, but Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, wound up singing it at her funeral. Springsteen's 26 Jun 1993 concert at Madison Square Garden was a benefit for The Kristen Ann Carr Fund. The concert raised more than $1.5 million for the fund from ticket sales and donations.
The fund has been sustained via auctions and events; Springsteen has donated signed guitars, tour jackets, and other memorabilia. For more information about the charity, visit the Kristen Ann Carr Sarcoma Forum website.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
