Live 26 Jun 1993 version
Well long as I remember the rain's been falling down
Clouds of mystery falling, confusion on the ground
Yeah good men through the ages, they try to find some sun
But still I wonder, still I wonder, who'll stop the rain
Yeah!
Well I went down Virginia seeking shelter from the storm
Got caught up in the fable, we watched the tower grow
Yeah Bobby planned a new deal, oh wrapped in golden chains
Yeah Lord I wonder, still I wonder, who'll stop the rain
Go!
(Woo hoo hoo, woo hoo hoo)
Heard the singers singing now, yeah how we cheered for more
The crowd had rushed together, they're just trying to keep warm
Yeah but still the rain kept falling, kept falling through the years
And I wonder, Lord I wonder, who'll stop the rain
Go!
The above lyrics are for the live 26 Jun 1993 performance of WHO'll STOP THE RAIN at Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY, during the World Tour 1992-1993. The song was played in a full-band arrangement.
The 26 Jun 1993 show at Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY, was the last of the World Tour 1992-1993. Billed as "Kristen Ann Carr Fund Benefit Concert", it raised money for the Kristen Ann Carr Fund.
Kristen Ann Carr (1971 - 1993) was the daughter of Barbara Carr, Bruce Springsteen's co-manager, and the stepdaughter of Dave Marsh, Carr's husband since Kristen was three years old and Springsteen's official biographer. Kristen died on 06 Jan 1993 at the age of twenty-one due to liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer that arises in fat cells in deep soft tissue. At her request, Dave Marsh, Barbara Carr, Kristen's sister Sasha, and Kristen's fiancé Michael Solomon founded the Kristen Ann Carr Fund. The fund is an organization dedicated to supporting research in the treatment and cure of sarcoma, as well as improving the lives of adolescents and young adults with cancer.
The summer before her death, Kristen and Solomon worked on the European leg of Springsteen's world tour, organizing bar trips and sightseeing expeditions for his new band. The couple had planned to use Springsteen's IF I SHOULD FALL BEHIND as their wedding song, but Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, wound up singing it at her funeral. Springsteen's 26 Jun 1993 concert at Madison Square Garden was a benefit for The Kristen Ann Carr Fund. The concert raised more than $1.5 million for the fund from ticket sales and donations.
The fund has been sustained via auctions and events; Springsteen has donated signed guitars, tour jackets, and other memorabilia. For more information about the charity, visit the Kristen Ann Carr Sarcoma Forum website.
