Live 26 Jun 1993 version
If your heart is restless from waiting so long
If you're tired and weary and you can't go on
If a distant dream is calling you
Then there's just one thing you can do
Follow that dream wherever it may lead
Come on, follow that dream to find the love you need
Come on, follow that dream
Now I've been searching for a heart that's free
Searching for someone to search with me
'Cause I need a love, a love I can trust
Together we'll search for the things that come to us
In dreams, wherever they may lead
Come on now, follow that dream to find the love you need
Come on yeah, follow that dream
Now everyone has the right to live
The right to a chance to give what they have to give
The right to fight for the things they believe
For the things that come to them in dreams
Follow that dream wherever it may lead
Come on now, follow that dream to find the love you need
Come on yeah, follow that dream wherever it may lead
Come on now, follow that dream to find the love you need
Yeah to find the love you need
Yeah to find the love you need
Yeah come on follow that dream
[Spoken outro:] Thank you, we love you. Thanks for your help. Thank you. We love you. Goodnight.
The above lyrics are for the live 26 Jun 1993 performance of FOLLOW THAT DREAM at Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY, during the World Tour 1992-1993.
The 26 Jun 1993 show at Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY, was the last of the World Tour 1992-1993. Billed as "Kristen Ann Carr Fund Benefit Concert", it raised money for the Kristen Ann Carr Fund.
Kristen Ann Carr (1971 - 1993) was the daughter of Barbara Carr, Bruce Springsteen's co-manager, and the stepdaughter of Dave Marsh, Carr's husband since Kristen was three years old and Springsteen's official biographer. Kristen died on 06 Jan 1993 at the age of twenty-one due to liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer that arises in fat cells in deep soft tissue. At her request, Dave Marsh, Barbara Carr, Kristen's sister Sasha, and Kristen's fiancé Michael Solomon founded the Kristen Ann Carr Fund. The fund is an organization dedicated to supporting research in the treatment and cure of sarcoma, as well as improving the lives of adolescents and young adults with cancer.
The summer before her death, Kristen and Solomon worked on the European leg of Springsteen's world tour, organizing bar trips and sightseeing expeditions for his new band. The couple had planned to use Springsteen's IF I SHOULD FALL BEHIND as their wedding song, but Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, wound up singing it at her funeral. Springsteen's 26 Jun 1993 concert at Madison Square Garden was a benefit for The Kristen Ann Carr Fund. The concert raised more than $1.5 million for the fund from ticket sales and donations.
The fund has been sustained via auctions and events; Springsteen has donated signed guitars, tour jackets, and other memorabilia. For more information about the charity, visit the Kristen Ann Carr Sarcoma Forum website.
Much of the info about The Kristen Ann Carr Fund is taken from Gary Graff's book The Ties That Bind - Bruce Springsteen A to E to Z.
