Live 12 Aug 1999 version
[Spoken intro:] Thanks! I want to thank everyone for coming down to these shows that we've done here in New Jersey. These have been, uh, these are some, uh, very special nights for us, I think it's been a great gift being able to stand up here and make this music come to life and to look out into your faces. Thank you. It's been, uh, this has been, it's a rebirth and a rededication of our band, of our commitment to serve you, which we try to do con-, continue to do as good as we can. And, uh, now let me see, how could I say thanks? I know there's a way. Let's carry on!
Oh, spread out now, Rosie, doctor come cut loose her mama's reins
You know playing blind man's bluff is a little baby's game
You pick up Little Dynamite, I'm gonna pick up Little Gun
Together we're gonna go out tonight and make that highway run
You don't have to call me lieutenant, Rosie, and I don't want to be your son
The only lover I'm ever gonna need's your soft sweet little girl's tongue
You're the one!
Oh, Dynamite's in the belfry, baby, playing with the bats
Little Gun's downtown in front of Woolworth's, trying out his attitude on all the cats
Papa's on the corner, waiting for the bus
Mama, she's home in the window, waiting up there for us
She'll be there in that chair 'til they wrestle her upstairs, you know we ain't gonna come
I ain't here on business, only here for fun!
You're the one
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your love, ain't no liar
Rosie, you're my stone desire, say yeah!
Jack the Rabbit, Weak Knees Willie, you know they're gonna be there
Gonna be Sloppy Sue and Big Bones Billy, they'll be coming up for air
We're gonna play some pool
[Crowd:] Skip some school, act real cool, stay out all night
It's gonna feel all right
Yeah, Rosie, come out tonight, Ro-ro-ro-rosie
Well, windows are for cheaters, chimneys for the poor
Closets are for hangers, winners, babe...
You don't want to say anymore!
Come on, band!
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosie, you're my stone desire
Yeah, yeah
[Spoken:] Just one more time, Dan Federici, Nils Lofgren, Max Weinberg, Garry Tallent, Steve Van Zandt, Patti Scialfa, oh, and then, Nils Lofgren, Big Man Clarence Clemons! And the great state of New Jersey!
Bring it up!
Yeah, I know your mama, she don't like me 'cause I play in a rock and roll band
I know your pop, he don't dig me, yeah, but he never did understand
Papa lowered the boom, locked you in your room
I'm coming to lend a hand
I want to liberate you, resexualiate you [chuckles], I'm coming to be your man
Someday we'll look back on this and...
[Crowd:] it will all...
It is funny!
Now you're sad, mama's mad
Your papa says he knows that I don't have (any money)
Well, your daddy said he knows (that I don't have any money)
Well, your daddy said he knows (that I don't have any money)
Well, this is his last chance to get his daughter in a... not to be brokenhearted
'Cause it ain't over, it's okay, kiss me, we're just getting started!
My tires were slashed and I almost crashed, the Lord had mercy
My machine, she's a dud, out stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey
Hold on tight, stay up all night, well, Rosie, I'm coming on strong
By the time we meet the morning light I will hold you in my arms
I know a pretty little place in Southern California down San Diego way
A little café, they play guitars all night and all day
You hear 'em in the back room strumming
Hold tight, baby, don't you know daddy's coming
Everybody say!
(Ohhh!)
Whoa!
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosie, you're my stone desire
Say, yeah, la, la, la!
Whoa, whoa!
Come on, band!
(Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!)
[Spoken outro:] Thanks, we love you! We'll be seeing you up the road!
The above lyrics are for the live 12 Aug 1999 performance of ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ, during The Reunion Tour. The song was played in a traditional full-band version and featuring band introductions. Springsteen replaced the "This is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance / The record company, Rosie, gave me a big advance" lines with "Well, this is his last chance to get his daughter in a... not to be brokenhearted / 'Cause it ain't over, it's okay, kiss me, we're just getting started!"..
This was the last of a fifteen-night stand at Continental Airlines Arena.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
