Live 03 Oct 2003 version
[Spoken intro:] Guesting on Rosalita, Mr. Al Leiter! He says it's the first time he's ever sung, but I don't know if I can believe him.
The night was chill, the moon was yellow
[Spoken:] You look pretty comfortable there, you don't look nervous!
Leaves came tumbling down
Spread out now, Rosie, doctor come cut loose her mama's reins
You know playin' blind man's bluff is a little baby's game
You pick up Little Dynamite, I'm gonna pick up Little Gun
Well, together we're gonna go out tonight, make that highway run
You don't have to call me lieutenant, Rosie, and I don't want to be your son
The only lover I'm ever gonna need's your soft sweet little girl's tongue
You're the one!
Dynamite's in the belfry, babe, playin' with the bats
Little Gun's downtown in front of Woolworth's, tryin' out his attitude on all the cats
Papa's on the corner, waiting for the bus
Mama's home in the window, waitin' up there for us
She'll be there in that chair 'til they wrestle her upstairs, you know we ain't gonna come
I ain't here on business, only here for
[Crowd:] fun!
You're the one!
Say!
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosie, you're my stone desire
Whoa!
Jack the Rabbit, Weak Knees Willie, you know they're gonna be there
Going to be Sloppy Sue, Big Bones Billy, they'll be comin' up for air
We're gonna play some pool, skip some school, act real cool
Stay out all night, it's gonna feel all right
Ro-ro-rosie, come out tonight, baby, come out tonight
Windows are for cheaters, chimneys for the poor
Closets are for hangers, winners use the door
Use it, Rosie, that's why it's there!
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosie, you're my stone desire
Whoa!
I know your mama, she don't like me 'cause I play in a rock and roll band
I know your pop don't dig me, he never did understand
Papa lowered the boom, locked you in your room
I'm coming to lend a hand
I want to liberate you, confiscate you, I want to be your man
Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny, yeah!
Now you're sad, mama's mad
Papa says he knows that I don't have any money
Your papa says he knows that (I don't have any money)
Your daddy says he knows (that I don't have any money)
Whoa!
This is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance
Steve! Record company gave me a big advance!
My tires were slashed, I almost crashed, the Lord had mercy
My machine, she's a dud, out stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey
Hold on tight, stay up all night, Rosie, I'm comin' on strong
By the time we meet the morning light I will hold you in my arms
I know a pretty little place in Southern California down San Diego way
Little café, they play guitars all night and day
You can hear 'em in the back room strumming
Hold tight, baby, don't you know daddy's coming
Everybody say
Ohhh! Whoa! Yee! Whoa! La! Y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-ya! Woo! Woo! Woo woo woo!
Whoa!
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosie, you're my stone desire
Whoa!
(Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!)
Mr. Al Leiter! Keep pitching, man, keep pitching!
The above lyrics are for the live 03 Oct 2003 performance of ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) at Shea Stadium in New York City, NY, during The Rising Tour. The song was played in a traditional full band version and featured a snippet of the traditional song STAGGER LEE as an introduction. New York Mets pitcher Al Leiter made a guest appearance on the song, playing tambourine and providing backup vocals. "When I pitch, I'm nervous before the game, but once I'm out there I just pitch," Leiter told the White Plains (N.Y.) Journal News. "I was way more nervous with Bruce, because I was totally out of my element... The whole day of the concert I was under some delusional thought he was going to turn to me and say 'Take it away, Al!' and I would freeze up... I was worried the music was going to stop or something."
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band concluded The Rising Tour with three shows at Shea Stadium in New York City, NY (01, 03, and 04 Oct 2003). Initially two shows were scheduled (01 and 03 Oct 2003) but a third show was added at a later stage (04 Oct 2003). See poster above.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
